PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Trey Daniels (ranked 23717 p4p, 520 weight class) and Randy Rhodes (ranked 3670 p4p, 304 weight class). Rhodes has chosen Imperial March (L.O.D. Rage Mix) as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Trey Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randy Rhodes!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniels tries to clinch up but Rhodes circles away and keeps his distance.
Rhodes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Daniels.
Daniels uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rhodes.

Rhodes instigates a clinch.
Daniels is trying to pull guard but Rhodes turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Rhodes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Daniels misses with a jab, cross combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Daniels looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Daniels misses with an uppercut.

Rhodes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rhodes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rhodes has Daniels pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Daniels manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Rhodes manages to break the clinch.
Rhodes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Daniels throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Daniels fails in his attempt to clinch.

Rhodes has closed the distance and engaged Daniels in a clinch.

Rhodes successfully pulls guard.
Rhodes seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Rhodes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daniels. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Daniels won't allow Rhodes to get back to his feet.
Daniels throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rhodes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rhodes is looking to stand up but Daniels isn't so interested in that idea.
Daniels trying to control but Rhodes is working from the bottom.
Daniels tries to free his leg and advance position but Rhodes is retaining full guard.

Rhodes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Daniels trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rhodes holds on and takes a little breather.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Daniels thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rhodes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Daniels throws a hook but Rhodes blocks it.

Rhodes rushes Daniels and presses him up against the cage.

Rhodes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rhodes misses with a body shot.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rhodes pulls guard successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rhodes is looking to stand up but Daniels isn't so interested in that idea.
Rhodes is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Daniels drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rhodes looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rhodes looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rhodes!

Daniels is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Rhodes's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daniels works his way to full guard. Good work.
Daniels working a defensive guard here.
Rhodes would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rhodes gets to his feet. Daniels looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Daniels shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rhodes defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trey Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Daniels fails with a takedown attempt.
A little jabbing left from Rhodes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rhodes dodges the punch combination from Daniels.
Randy Rhodes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rhodes throws a quick inside leg kick.

Rhodes moves into the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rhodes manages to pull guard.
Rhodes wants to sweep here but Daniels controlling him for the moment.
Daniels throwing strikes from guard but Rhodes blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Rhodes dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Daniels shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rhodes defends it nicely.
Rhodes lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Rhodes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Rhodes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rhodes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rhodes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Trey Daniels has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Daniels loses concentration momentarily and Rhodes pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Daniels crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Rhodes finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Randy Rhodes!
Randy Rhodes decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
