PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ike Tronstone (ranked 1159 p4p, 30 weight class) and Nick Fjera (ranked 702 p4p, 21 weight class). Nick Fjera told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ike Tronstone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Nick Fjera!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fjera thows a left - swing and a miss!
Tronstone steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fjera.
Fjera throws a looping overhand right but Tronstone ducks down to avoid it.
Nice uppercut lands for Fjera. That snapped Tronstone's head back.
Fjera looks to throw the jab but Tronstone is out of range.
Tronstone slips under a jab.
Tronstone uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fjera.
Fjera smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Tronstone has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fjera throws a body shot but no joy.
A little feinted left hand from Tronstone on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Fjera throws a jab but it's blocked by Tronstone.
It looked like Tronstone wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

It looks like Nick Fjera has been cut.
Fjera throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tronstone sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Tronstone swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Fjera cracks a nice hook into Tronstone's ribs.
Fjera rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tronstone moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tronstone doesn't manage to clinch there - Fjera circles away.
Fjera lands a nice shot that snaps Tronstone's head back.

Nick Fjera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fjera throws a poor cross that misses
and Tronstone counters with a straight right hand.
Tronstone takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Fjera throws a looping overhand right but Tronstone ducks down to avoid it.

Tronstone looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Fjera throws a hook to the side of Tronstone's head but Tronstone sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Fjera steps into range and cracks Tronstone with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Tronstone flops backwards and Fjera dives into his guard looking to finish!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fjera wants to control from the top but Tronstone keeps moving.
Fjera passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Tronstone gets back to half guard.
Tronstone tries to get to full guard but Fjera has control of the leg.

Fjera not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fjera wants to work for an arm triangle but Tronstone is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Tronstone is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Fjera throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Fjera connects with a nice short shot to Tronstone's temple.
Tronstone moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Fjera lands a couple of digs.
Fjera looking to sit in guard and control but Tronstone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Tronstone postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tronstone won't allow Fjera to get back to his feet.

Fjera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fjera is looking to stand up but Tronstone isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Tronstone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fjera fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tronstone manages to avoid it.
Fjera lands with a nice body punch.
Fjera tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tronstone was well out of range. Poor timing from Fjera.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fjera swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Tronstone is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Fjera connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Tronstone tumbling to the canvas! Fjera pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Tronstone was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Nick Fjera!
A less than humble Nick Fjera misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
