PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lielais Bullis (ranked 5288 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Fitzpatrick (ranked 5849 p4p, 0 weight class). John Fitzpatrick will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bullis takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Fitzpatrick misses with a low kick.
As Fitzpatrick tries to get set, Bullis tries to push him back and clinch up but Fitzpatrick manages to avoid the attempt.

Bullis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fitzpatrick's guard.

Fitzpatrick uses the cage to get back to his feet.
A low kick from Bullis is predictable there
and Fitzpatrick counters with a three punch combo that has Bullis backing up. Bullis nods at Fitzpatrick to acknowledge the strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bullis tries for a takedown but Fitzpatrick circles away easily
and Fitzpatrick cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Lielais Bullis has been cut.

so Bullis counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Fitzpatrick is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Bullis presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Fitzpatrick jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bullis walks away with a smile on his face. Fitzpatrick gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Fitzpatrick tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bullis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Bullis stuffs the takedown attempt from Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick gets slowly back to his feet.
Fitzpatrick dives in for a single leg takedown but Bullis sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Lielais Bullis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Fitzpatrick.

and Fitzpatrick moves into the clinch.

Bullis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fitzpatrick defends it easily.

That was a close round but I would say that Lielais Bullis will probably get the nod.

Bullis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Fitzpatrick is wriggling around but Bullis manages to pass to half guard.

Bullis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fitzpatrick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Fitzpatrick moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fitzpatrick is looking for a triangle here but Bullis uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bullis wants to stand but Fitzpatrick is controlling his arm.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Bullis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Bullis connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Fitzpatrick some visible discomfort.

Bullis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fitzpatrick for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fitzpatrick tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bullis swivels and escapes.

Fitzpatrick prevents a takedown attempt there.

Fitzpatrick is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bullis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Fitzpatrick to the mat. Fitzpatrick regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Fitzpatrick manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Bullis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bullis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fitzpatrick napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Fitzpatrick wants to get back to his feet but Bullis is dominant here and he's now got Fitzpatrick's back!
Bullis controlling the position well here. Fitzpatrick rolled but Bullis kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Bullis has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Fitzpatrick has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Bullis is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Fitzpatrick is defending well though. Bullis let's go of the attempt for now.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bullis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
