PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Parker Johnston (ranked 25112 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Hansen (ranked 5887 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Parker Johnston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Christian Hansen!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnston shoots in looking for a takedown but Hansen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnston's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hansen is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Hansen clinches up against the cage.
Hansen stops a takedown attempt from Johnston.
Johnston fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Parker Johnston. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hansen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Johnston throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hansen tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Johnston is in Hansen's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Hansen manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Johnston keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hansen's head.

Hansen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Hansen wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnston is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Johnston misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Johnston is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hansen pulls his head out easily.
Hansen working over Johnston with some ground and pound. Johnston looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hansen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hansen throwing shots but Johnston is blocking nicely.
Hansen is just content to waste time from the top position. Johnston takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Hansen throws an elbow that misses. Johnston uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hansen's guard. Nice move by Johnston!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hansen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnston's guard.


Hansen gets to his feet. Johnston looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hansen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Johnston as he avoids it easily.
Hansen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Johnston's sensitive parts.
Hansen looks for a takedown but Johnston sprawls well.
As Hansen tries to get set, Johnston tries to push him back and clinch up but Hansen manages to avoid the attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hansen rushes Johnston and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christian Hansen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Johnston misses with the combination.
Johnston tries to clinch but Hansen is having none of it.

Hansen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnston's guard.
Hansen stands and throws Johnston's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hansen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hansen decides to stand back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hansen throws a series of strikes that have Johnston backpedaling.


It looks like Parker Johnston has been cut.

Hansen throws a right hand that Johnston ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnston also avoids with ease.
Johnston went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Hansen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Hansen counters with a three punch combo that has Johnston backing up. Johnston nods at Hansen to acknowledge the strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Johnston counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Johnston seems to be looking for submissions.
Hansen pushes Johnston off looking to stand but Johnston dives back in and keeps control.
Hansen keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Hansen manages to get to full guard.

Johnston cracks Hansen with a solid left hand.
Johnston throwing strikes but missing.

Christian Hansen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Hansen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnston avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hansen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Johnston feints a jab promting Hansen to slip. Johnston then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Hansen slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Hansen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Johnston sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
As Hansen looks to move away, Johnston throws a big counter combo but Hansen just gets out of the way.
Parker Johnston has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christian Hansen.

Hansen pushes Johnston up against the cage in a clinch.
Hansen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Johnston with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Johnston has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hansen after a bit of a struggle.

Hansen pulls guard.

Hansen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnston manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Johnston will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hansen is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Johnston presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Hansen gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Johnston.
Johnston goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hansen prevents it.
Johnston tries to land a knee to the head but Hansen blocks with his arms.

Hansen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hansen closes the distance and clinches up with Johnston, looking for a takedown. Hansen pushes Johnston against the cage but Johnston circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Johnston will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Hansen up against the cage.

Hansen manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Johnston is working Hansen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hansen has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Johnston off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Johnston keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hansen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Hansen lands with a good body shot.

Johnston shoots for a double leg takedown but Hansen sprawls well. He's pushed Johnston's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
It seemed like Hansen was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Sloppy strikes from Johnston. Those never looked like landing.
Johnston sets himself, and Hansen steps forward looking for the clinch! Johnston avoids it this time.
Hansen lands with a kick to the temple. Johnston shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Hansen moves into the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hansen prevents the takedown attempt.
Johnston throws an elbow but it misses.

Hansen manages to break the clinch.
Johnston's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Johnston duly obliges.
Hansen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Parker Johnston has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Christian Hansen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Johnston swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Christian Hansen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hansen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
