PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lowell Dixon (ranked 25117 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fiji Wilson (ranked 5845 p4p, 580 weight class). Fiji Wilson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lowell Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fiji Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Lowell Dixon has been cut.

Wilson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Dixon looking to control but Wilson passes into half guard.
Wilson is looking to advance position but Dixon won't allow it.
Wilson uses his free foot to push down on Dixon's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dixon.

Wilson blocks Dixon's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Dixon is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wilson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Dixon wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Wilson.

Dixon wants to hold on but Wilson pushes him away.
Dixon manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Dixon, under a barage of strikes from Wilson.
Dixon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wilson is trying to control the action in half guard but Dixon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wilson throws a strike but Dixon avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Wilson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dixon gets caught napping as Wilson dives in and scores a takedown. Dixon manages to retain guard.
Dixon pulls Wilson in close to prevent any damage.

Wilson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Dixon has his foot on Wilson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wilson works his way back into a safe position though.

Wilson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dixon napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wilson throws an elbow but Dixon slips to the side and avoids it well.

Wilson steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Dixon is out on his feet! Wilson sets himself and nearly takes Dixon's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
