PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shark Attack (ranked 1847 p4p, 231 weight class) and Marcus Child (ranked 2708 p4p, 312 weight class). Child has chosen VooDoo as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shark Attack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcus Child!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Attack shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Child sprawls well. Child wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Attack gets slowly back to his feet.
Child throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Attack's head.


It looks like Shark Attack has been cut.
A jab from Child finds it's way through Attack's defenses.
Attack dives in and grabs Child's left leg, looking for a takedown. Child pushes down on Attack's head and hops out.
Attack has his takedown stuffed
and Child counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shark Attack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Child pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Attack dives in for a single leg takedown but Child sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Child swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Attack takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Good leg kick by Child there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Attack tries to clinch but Child is having none of it.
Child wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Child throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Attack's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Child - that will leave a mark!
Nice straight punches there by Child. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Child.
Attack has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Child finds it's way round the side to connect with Attack's head.
Child has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Child has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Child with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Child digs a good body shot into Attack's ribs.
Child throws a nice inside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Attack takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Marcus Child is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Child avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Attack shoots in looking for a takedown. Child tries to sprawl out of it but Attack keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Child manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Attack closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Child can't do much from the bottom here.
Child tries to buck Attack off but Attack is having none of it.
Child dodges the ground and pound from Attack.
Child is looking to regain half guard here but Attack keeps moving and retains side control.
Child is trying to control Attack's posture but Attack avoids it.
Attack tries to score with some ground and pound. Child controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Attack lands some shots froms side control.
Child gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Child looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Child trying to control but Attack postures up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Attack thows a huge punch but Child dodges it nicely.
Attack is nestled in close to Child, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Attack landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Child gets back to full guard.
Child is trying to keep Attack in close.
Attack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Attack avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Child is trying to keep Attack in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Child has momentary wrist control but Attack slips an elbow through the middle.
Attack throws a big elbow that misses.
Attack is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Child has his foot on Attack's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Attack works his way back into a safe position though.
We've been hearing that Attack has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Attack lands a couple of digs.

Attack got a little sloppy there for a moment and Child has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Attack has managed to get both his arms back between Child's legs - danger averted.
Child is trying to control the position but Attack postures up.
Attack postures up and lands a big shot to Child's brow.
Attack throwing strikes from guard but Child blocks nicely.
Attack lands a couple of digs.
Attack scoring with some ground and pound.
Attack distracts Child with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.


Child is rocked!

Child working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Attack doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Attack manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Attack landing some decent shots from guard.
Child is still in real trouble! Can Attack finish him?

Child looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Child seems to have recovered his senses.
Attack is in close to Child's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Attack scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Attack throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Child looking for a guillotine here but Attack defends easily.
Attack landing with the ground and pound.
Attack lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Attack scoring with punches to the head and body.
Child working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Attack.
Child utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Attack keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Child's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marcus Child will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Shark Attack's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Attack looking to score a takedown here. Child is defending well but Attack drives through and ends up in Child's guard.
Child avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Attack won't allow Child to get back to his feet.

Child is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Child looking for a sweep. Not yet Child, not yet.
Attack scoring with some ground and pound.
Child is trying to keep Attack in close.
Attack loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Child is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shark Attack overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Attack cracks Child with a solid left hand.

Attack throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Child works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Attack working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Child tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Attack chips away with some ground and pound.
Attack has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Attack accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Child escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Attack gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Attack is working Child over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Attack is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Child throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Child is breathing heavily.

Attack preventing the sweep.
Child is still trying to improve position.
Attack scoring with some ground and pound.
Attack loads up on a big left hand. Child felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Attack looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Child can't hide his disappointment, as Attack celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shark Attack!
Shark Attack decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
