PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alfonso Valdez (ranked 5308 p4p, 388 weight class) and Tuju Kilju (ranked 12210 p4p, 496 weight class). Valdez comes to the cage accompanied by Believer - Imagine Dragons. Kilju is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: One Of These Mornings. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alfonso Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tuju Kilju!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kilju bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee asks Kilju politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kilju prefers to stall for the moment though.
Valdez is not content to let Kilju control the position.
Kilju taking a breather here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kilju wants to control but Valdez is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kilju with the ground and pound but Valdez regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Valdez is refusing to be controlled, as Kilju sits in half guard.

Kilju looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kilju missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Valdez won't allow Kilju to pass to mount.
Valdez is refusing to be controlled, as Kilju sits in half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kilju works his way into side control.

Kilju working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Valdez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kilju on the ground.
Kilju is trying to ground and pound but Valdez uses the momentary lack of control by Kilju to regain half guard.

Valdez looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Valdez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kilju is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kilju has momentary wrist control but Valdez slips an elbow through the middle.
Valdez throws a strike but Kilju rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kilju trying to control the position from guard on top but Valdez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tuju Kilju dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Kilju gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kilju tries to pull guard but Valdez won't allow it.
Kilju tries to score a body lock takedown but Valdez shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Kilju breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kilju or perhaps it was just good defense by Valdez, which made it look bad.
Alfonso Valdez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tuju Kilju.
Kilju is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Kilju looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Valdez is fending him off so far but Kilju persists. Nope, Valdez circles away and we're back to standing.

Kilju closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kilju lands in his opponent's guard.

Valdez is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Kilju tries to land a knee to the head but Valdez blocks with his arms.

Valdez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kilju shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Valdez's guard.
Tuju Kilju has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kilju is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kilju wants to control from the top but Valdez keeps moving.
Valdez wants to stand and escape but Kilju is having none of it.
Valdez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Valdez tries to get out of the position.

Kilju throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Valdez.

Valdez drives through and clinches with Kilju against the cage.
Kilju tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Valdez smiles and moves away.

Kilju closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Valdez's guard.
Valdez is looking to stand up but Kilju isn't so interested in that idea.

Kilju throws a strike but Valdez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Valdez won't allow Kilju to get back to his feet.

A close second round but Tuju Kilju will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kilju looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kilju misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kilju tries to score with some ground and pound. Valdez controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

A punch lands to the side of Kilju 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Valdez is looking to break free of the clinch but Kilju has double underhooks.

Valdez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kilju pulls out of a head kick attempt.
An attempted straight right counter from Valdez misses the target.
Valdez throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Kilju holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tuju Kilju comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kilju winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
