PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Krakow (ranked 22556 p4p, 696 weight class) and Phill Brooks (ranked 4881 p4p, 475 weight class). Brooks has chosen This Fire Burns as his entrance music. Phill Brooks struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Thomas Krakow is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Krakow!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phill Brooks!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brooks throws a head kick that misses

and Krakow counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Krakow.

Krakow breaks from the clinch.
Krakow pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Brooks shoots for a takedown but Krakow saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Thomas Krakow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Krakow fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Brooks to the ground. Krakow is now in Brooks's guard.
Krakow trying to control but Brooks is working from the bottom.
Krakow working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Krakow won't allow Brooks to sweep him here.
Brooks keeping moving, preventing Krakow from controlling successfully.

Krakow passes Brooks's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Krakow looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brooks with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Brooks wants to get back to his feet.
Krakow drops an elbow to the side of Brooks's head.
Brooks is staying active underneath Krakow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Krakow is trying to work for a kimura but Brooks is defending well.
Krakow stalling away here and it's allowed Brooks to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brooks looking to control.
Krakow looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Krakow looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brooks has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Krakow has passed into side control.
Krakow controls the position from side control.

Krakow in side control, throwing shots but Brooks defends.
Brooks is not content to let Krakow control the position.
Krakow landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Brooks tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Brooks struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Krakow staying calm.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Krakow has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Krakow working the ground and pound effectively.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Krakow shoots in but no luck this time.
Krakow avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Krakow closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Brooks bucks up and tries to throw Krakow off but instead Krakow has got his back!
Brooks trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Krakow is looking for the choke from the back position but Brooks is controlling his hands well.
Krakow lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Krakow is hanging on to Brooks's back as he tries to escape.
Krakow is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Brooks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Krakow looking to break Brooks's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Brooks remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Krakow will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Brooks is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Krakow on his back. Krakow looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Brooks has to tap out to a very impressive submission!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Thomas Krakow!
Jumping up and down and very excited, Thomas Krakow waved his t-shirt featuring Amped Performance ($200/160q)'s logo in front of the cameras.
