PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Wiremu Huia (ranked 2450 p4p, 320 weight class) and Ray Bundles (ranked 2348 p4p, 307 weight class). Huia comes to the cage accompanied by Poi E - Patea Maori Club. Bundles has chosen It's Tricky by Run DMC as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bundles drops his hands momentarily and Huia takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Huia throws a sloppy head kick and Bundles moves out of range easily.
Bundles throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Huia closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bundles did well to prevent Huia getting side control.

Bundles sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Huia's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Bundles working his ground and pound in the gym.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bundles seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bundles feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Huias jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Huia shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bundles sprawls well. Bundles wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Huia gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wiremu Huia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
