PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Carter (ranked 760 p4p, 79 weight class) and Kylar Sensei (ranked 799 p4p, 83 weight class). Carter comes to the cage accompanied by Jazz Cartier - Dead or Alive. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kylar Sensei!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sensei falls off balance throwing a combination
and Carter counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Sensei ducks under a wild hook from Carter.
Sensei pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Sensei throws an off balance right hand
and Carter counters with a left to the body.
Sensei just misses with a punch to the body.
It looked like Carter wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Sensei misses with a wild body shot.

Sensei closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sensei lands in his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carter wants to sweep but no luck.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sensei is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Sensei trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Sensei wants to control from the top but Carter keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Sensei with a flurry of punches that miss.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sensei scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Carter ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
An attempted straight right counter from Carter misses the target.
Sensei misses with a body shot.
A little feinted left hand from Carter on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Carter scores with a shot to the body.
Carter turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Carter jabs Sensei right on the nose. Sensei blinks but takes it well.
Carter connects with a jab.

Sensei feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sensei postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sensei throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Carter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sensei escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carter throws a strike but Sensei rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Sensei landing some decent shots from guard.
Carter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Sensei throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sensei manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carter manages to get himself to full guard.

Sensei postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Sensei tries to free his leg and advance position but Carter is retaining full guard.
Sensei trying to control the position from guard on top but Carter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sensei is looking to work some ground and pound but Carter has wrist control.
Sensei loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kylar Sensei will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sensei lands a lovely overhand right.
Sensei lands a nice hook to Carter's body. Carter takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Sensei bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sensei has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Carter moves away from the strike by Sensei.
Carter moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Carter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sensei moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Carter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sensei's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Carter connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sensei scrambles back to his feet.

Sensei closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Carter to the mat! Carter manages to get full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sensei throws an elbow that misses. Carter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sensei's guard. Nice move by Carter!

Sensei wants to improve his position but instead Carter has moved into half guard.
Sensei slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Carter's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Sensei is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Carter is aware though and is defending well.

Carter distracts Sensei with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Carter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sensei has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carter has managed to get both his arms back between Sensei's legs - danger averted.

Sensei had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Carter defends it easily.
Carter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Michael Carter will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Sensei!
Nice takedown defense from Carter. No joy for Sensei on that attempt.
Carter was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Carter gets caught napping as Sensei dives in and scores a takedown. Carter manages to retain guard.

Sensei sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Carter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sensei doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Carter.

Michael Carter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Carter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
