PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Borg Bunting (ranked 631 p4p, 56 weight class) and Paul OConnell (ranked 2796 p4p, 294 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Borg Bunting!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul OConnell!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bunting takes a jab right on the kisser.
Bunting has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Hart Family Dungeon in the buildup to the fight.
A head kick misses from OConnell.
Nice defenses there by OConnell.
Bunting takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
OConnell connects with a jab.


It looks like Borg Bunting has been cut.
Bunting looks for the body kick but OConnell saw that one coming.
OConnell looks like he wants to counter punch here.
The fighters circling - OConnell throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
OConnell avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bunting throws an uppercut from half a mile away. OConnell sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Bunting throws out a leg kick but OConnell moves out of range and Bunting only half commits.
Bunting moves out of range as OConnell strikes.
OConnell tries a head kick but it misses.
Bunting slips a jab from OConnell.
OConnell has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Paul OConnell has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
OConnell missing with a left hand there. Bunting was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
OConnell throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bunting sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Borg Bunting seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
OConnell misses with a hook.
Bunting jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
OConnell bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Bunting's head.
OConnell is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bunting moves into the clinch successfully.
OConnell is trying to break free.
Bunting tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

OConnell breaks from the clinch.
Bunting takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Bunting looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Bunting throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bunting looks to land a right hand but OConnell moved out of range.
Bunting looks to throw the jab but OConnell is out of range.
OConnell moves out of range of the strikes.
OConnell throws out a loose jab but Bunting uses good head movement to avoid it.
And Bunting counters with a quick kick to the body but OConnell blocks it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Bunting.
OConnell throws a head kick but Bunting moves out of range.
Bunting is really struggling to find his range with his punches. OConnell's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Bunting takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Bunting misses with a looping left.
Bunting misses with a leg kick
and OConnell counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
OConnell moves out of range of the leg kick from Bunting.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bunting tries to land a front kick but OConnell steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Bunting looks to throw the jab but OConnell is out of range.
Bunting misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from OConnell.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bunting tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
OConnell clobbers Bunting with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as OConnell checks a leg kick.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from OConnell! But no joy.
OConnell lands a jab to the nose.
OConnell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bunting has time to react.
OConnell might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
OConnell throws a nice looking combination but Bunting bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Bunting feints and then cracks OConnell's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow OConnell down.
A head kick by OConnell - that's a beauty! Bunting is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even OConnell can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Paul OConnell!
A relieved looking Paul OConnell thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
