PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rich Jenkins (ranked 5874 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Bishop (ranked 5850 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rich Jenkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Bishop!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bishop manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Jenkins on his heels. He'll look to pass Jenkins's guard now, I'm sure.
Jenkins throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Bishop is looking to work some ground and pound but Jenkins has wrist control.
Bishop throws a big right hand that misses.
Bishop engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
It looks like Bishop might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jenkins keeping moving, preventing Bishop from controlling successfully.

Jenkins utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bishop shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jenkins manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jenkins wants to get back to his feet but Bishop passes into half guard.

Bishop is looking to take a break and control but Jenkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bishop moves into full mount! Jenkins won't be happy about that!

Bishop controlling the position easily from mount.
Bishop throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Bishop throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Jenkins because Bishop loaded up on that one.
Bishop has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bishop tries to control but Jenkins wriggling away.

Bishop goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Jenkins is on top in guard.
Jenkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bishop on the ground.

Bishop will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Bishop controls Jenkins momentarily but Jenkins frees himself.
Bishop should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Jenkins looking to sit in guard and control but Bishop gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jenkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jenkins can't keep his opponent in guard - Bishop advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Bishop dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jenkins changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bishop looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bishop has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jenkins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bishop, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Bishop's face as Jenkins controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bishop is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Bishop is looking to reverse the position.
Jenkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jenkins is sitting in close to Bishop's body. Bishop has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Jenkins is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Jenkins is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Bishop.
