PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Hutchinson (ranked 24895 p4p, 0 weight class) and Van Der Veer (ranked 5871 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Van Der Veer was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Robbie Hutchinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Van Der Veer!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hutchinson tries to clinch up.
Veer keeps the fight on the outside.

Veer shoots in and bounces Hutchinson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Veer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Veer is looking to stand up but Hutchinson won't let him.
Veer controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hutchinson trying to keep a closed guard but Veer is proving a slippery customer.
Veer engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Veer is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Hutchinson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Veer off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Hutchinson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Veer gets a takedown into half guard.
Well, if Veer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Veer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Hutchinson controls his leg.

Veer is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Veer lands a nice short elbow.
Well, if Veer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hutchinson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Veer controlling the action here.

Hutchinson is trying to control but Veer passes into side control!

Veer decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hutchinson to his feet.

Veer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hutchinson is trying to defend but Veer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Veer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Hutchinson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Veer is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Veer is taking a breather. Hutchinson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hutchinson is looking to escape.
Ground and pound from Veer.
Nice strikes from Veer there.
Veer winds up and cracks Hutchinson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Veer is nestled in close to Hutchinson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Veer drops an elbow to the side of Hutchinson's head.
Veer tries to pass to full mount but Hutchinson defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Van Der Veer dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Veer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Hutchinson kicks Veer off and gets to his feet.
Veer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hutchinson tries to clinch up
and Veer counters with a one-two to the body.
Nice sprawl there from Veer as Hutchinson shoots in.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hutchinson gets a double leg takedown into Veer's guard.
Veer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hutchinson wants to control from the top but Veer keeps moving.

Veer controlling the position.
Veer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hutchinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Veer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Veer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hutchinson has gone for a leg lock! Veer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hutchinson's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hutchinson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Veer manages to pass to side control.
Veer takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Veer content to control rather than advance.
Hutchinson tries to kick Veer off in order to stand up. Veer Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Veer decides to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hutchinson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Veer.
Hutchinson wants to clinch up but Veer keeps it at a distance.
Veer with the counter takedown but Hutchinson avoids it easily.

Veer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Veer lands in his opponent's guard.
Veer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Hutchinson manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Veer has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hutchinson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Veer tightens his grip and picks Hutchinson up, before dumping him to the ground. Hutchinson manages to land in guard.
Hutchinson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Veer manages to pass to side control.
Veer is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hutchinson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hutchinson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Veer moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Hutchinson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Van Der Veer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

You can see the frustration on Hutchinson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Veer is continuing to stall.

Hutchinson seems to have got his legs back now.
Veer scores with a couple of short elbows.
Hutchinson is being controlled here.
Veer lands a strong strike to the head of Hutchinson. That's dazed him! Veer looking to finish here. Hutchinson is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Veer lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Van Der Veer!
