PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jakub Larva (ranked 5928 p4p, 522 weight class) and Jasper Valdeman (ranked 5280 p4p, 0 weight class). Larva comes to the cage accompanied by leave it all behind. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Valdeman as Larva shoots in.
Larva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Valdeman lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Larva moves to clinch but Valdeman breaks away
and Valdeman connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Larva throws a hook but Valdeman avoids it easily.

Larva clinches up against the cage.

Valdeman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Larva shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Valdeman counter with a right hand.

Larva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Valdeman was covering up waiting for the punch and Larva finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Larva lands a couple of elbows.

Valdeman wants to get back to his feet but Larva is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Larva is pushing down on Valdeman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Valdeman is fighting to maintain full guard but Larva has managed to sneak the leg through.
Larva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Valdeman scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Larva manages to mount him!

Larva has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Valdeman's face.

Valdeman is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Valdeman is bucking up trying to escape but Larva cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The referee warns Valdeman that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Valdeman bucks up and throws Larva to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Valdeman counters with a three punch combo that has Larva backing up. Larva nods at Valdeman to acknowledge the strikes.

Valdeman closes the distance and pushes Larva back into the cage.

Valdeman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Larva is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Valdeman.
Valdeman lands an overhand right.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice defenses there by Valdeman.
Valdeman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Larva attempts a counter takedown but Valdeman avoids it well and moves away.
Larva tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Valdeman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A head kick misses from Larva.
Jakub Larva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Larva looks to land a body kick but Valdeman moved away.
Valdeman unleashes a big counter combination but Larva bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Larva jabbing away but nothing is landing.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Valdeman! But no joy.
Larva connects with a right hand. Valdeman shakes it off.
Larva bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Valdeman's head.

Valdeman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Larva really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jakub Larva. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Larva clinches up with Valdeman and pushes him back against the cage.

Valdeman breaks the clinch.
Larva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Valdeman swivels and escapes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Larva walks into a jab.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Valdeman, right into the meat.

Valdeman wants to clinch up but Larva keeps it at a distance.

Valdeman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Larva uses from the top position.

Jasper Valdeman dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Larva is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Valdeman's half guard.
Larva is trying to control the action in half guard but Valdeman is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Larva looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Valdeman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Valdeman pushes Larva off looking to stand but Larva dives back in and keeps control.

Horrible takedown attempt by Larva or perhaps it was just good defense by Valdeman, which made it look bad.

Larva has managed to clinch.
Larva has Valdeman pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Valdeman manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Larva has Valdeman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Larva pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Valdeman tumbling to the mat - Larva dives into Valdeman's guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Valdeman uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Larva has time to react.
Larva throws a head kick but Valdeman moves out of range.
Larva shoots in for a takedown but Valdeman shows good takedown defense.
Larva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Valdeman avoids it really well and circles away.

Jasper Valdeman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Larva drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Valdeman gets the underhooks and prevents it.

The crowd cheers as Valdeman lands an impressive looking overhand right. Larva doesn't seem phased though.

Larva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Valdeman has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Larva has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Valdeman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Larva throws a push kick but Valdeman slaps the foot to one side.
Valdeman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Larva is working for a kimura but Valdeman is defending it quite comfortably.

Larva not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Larva slows the pace down in half guard.
Larva wants to take a breather but Valdeman is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Larva passes to full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Larva won't let Valdeman get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Larva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Valdeman is looking to escape.

Larva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Valdeman felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
