Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rigoberto Vargas (ranked 25199 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Dost (ranked 7905 p4p, 0 weight class). Bas Dost will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dost throws a head kick that misses

and Vargas counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dost won't be happy with that.
Dost is looking for a sweep.
Vargas working the head and body with strikes.
Vargas creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Dost sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Dost is looking to regain half guard here but Vargas keeps moving and retains side control.
Vargas is chipping away with strikes.
Dost wants to control but Vargas postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vargas lands a nice forearm strike.
Dost tries to improve position but can't.

Vargas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vargas stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Dost throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Vargas drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dost sprawls and moves away.

Dost gets caught flat footed, as Vargas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Vargas is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Dost kicks Vargas off and gets to his feet.
Dost looks winded!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dost clinches.
Vargas misses with a body punch.
Vargas slowing the pace effectively.
Dost tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Dost trying to stall but Vargas improves his position.
Dost prevents a body shot from Vargas.

Dost is fighting off a takedown attempt but Vargas is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dost to the mat. Dost regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Dost is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Vargas presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Dost gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vargas regains guard.

Vargas pushes Dost off and gets back to his feet.

Vargas scores with a jab to the body.

Dost moves into the clinch.

Dost's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Dost shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dost showed some decent athleticism there.
Vargas is controlling Dost's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Vargas flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Vargas gets back to full guard.
Vargas pulls Dost in close to his closed guard and prevents Dost from doing any damage or advancing position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rigoberto Vargas will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Dost throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Vargas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Dost has one foot on Vargas's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Dost cracks Vargas with a right hand to the side of the head.
Dost stuffs the takedown attempt from Vargas. Vargas gets slowly back to his feet.

Vargas gets caught napping as Dost dives in and scores a takedown. Vargas manages to retain guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dost wants to stand but Vargas is controlling his posture from full guard.

Dost drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Vargas dives on top into guard.

Vargas prevents Dost from getting back to his feet.
Vargas postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Vargas stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Dost gets a takedown into half guard.
Dost is breathing heavily.
Vargas wants to control but Dost is keeping busy.
Vargas preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Vargas has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Dost is on him like a limpet, forcing Vargas back against the cage.
Dost tries to work over Vargas's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Dost wants to stall.

Dost is trying to trip Vargas. He has hold of a leg but Vargas is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dost persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Vargas is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dost has picked Vargas up - he's going for a ride! Dost dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Vargas is trying to control but can't.

Vargas desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Vargas has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Dost. Oh but Vargas has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Dost goes limp - he's gone! Vargas jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
