Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcio Alvarez (ranked 3573 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timothy Poggle (ranked 3205 p4p, 398 weight class). Alvarez comes to the cage accompanied by Made in Brazil. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Alvarez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Poggle's guard.
Alvarez wants to control from the top but Poggle keeps moving.
Poggle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Poggle is on top in guard.

Alvarez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've been hearing good reports from Alvarez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poggle trying to control the position from guard on top but Alvarez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Poggle accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Alvarez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Poggle defends well.
Poggle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
