PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Makebono Bowen (ranked 8890 p4p, 0 weight class) and Toni Urg (ranked 11680 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Makebono Bowen has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Makebono Bowen seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 84 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Makebono Bowen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 45 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Toni Urg!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowen leaves Urg with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bowen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Urg slips under a jab.
Bowen throws a series of punches but Urg moves out of range.
Bowen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bowen tries to clinch up but Urg circles away and keeps his distance.
Bowen closes the distance looking to clinch
and Urg counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Urg avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bowen looks to clinch
and Urg cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Makebono Bowen has been cut.

Bowen pushes Urg up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Urg can't break the clinch.
Urg is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Urg successfully pulls guard.
Bowen wants to get up but he can't break Urg's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Urg trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowen tries to stand but Urg is controlling from the bottom.
Urg is pulling down on Bowen's head. It's preventing any offense from Bowen, at least for the moment.
Bowen trying to stand up but can't free himself from Urg's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Urg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Urg keeps the fight on the outside.
Bowen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Urg manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Bowen moves into the clinch successfully.

Urg breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Urg shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bowen sprawls well. Bowen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Urg gets slowly back to his feet.
Makebono Bowen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Toni Urg.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bowen enables Urg to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bowen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Urg won't allow Bowen to get back to his feet.
Bowen keeping moving, preventing Urg from controlling successfully.
Bowen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Urg won't allow Bowen to get back to his feet.
Urg postures up and lands a big shot to Bowen's brow.
Urg not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Urg gets to his feet - Bowen follows without any prompting.
Bowen looks to land a combination but Urg avoids it well.

Urg moves into the clinch successfully.
Urg fails to pull guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Urg escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Urg takes the fight into the clinch.
Bowen looking to slow down the pace here.
The referee is keeping an eye on Bowen - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Bowen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bowen misses with a looping left.
Urg is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Urg dives in and scores a takedown into Bowen's guard.
Bowen wants to get back to his feet but Urg passes into half guard.
Bowen is breathing heavily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toni Urg dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Makebono Bowen's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Urg scores with a takedown into Bowen's guard.
Bowen wants to get back to his feet but Urg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Urg sitting in guard here, content to control.
Urg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Urg chips away with some ground and pound.
Urg forces his way into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Urg winds up and cracks Bowen with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Toni Urg has got the better of the ground game so far.
Urg trying to control the pace.
Urg missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Urg working over Bowen with some ground and pound. Bowen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Bowen tries to kick Urg off but Urg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Urg not doing much here.

Urg is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Bowen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Urg on the ground.

Urg passes to side control.
Bowen is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Urg has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Urg lands a decent elbow from side control.
Urg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bowen keeps working.
Urg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bowen seems a little lost for a moment, as Urg dominates the positioning.
Urg lands an elbow.


Makebono Bowen's cut is getting worse.
Bowen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Urg asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Urg stands up and beckons Bowen to his feet.
Makebono Bowen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Some wild striking there from Bowen.
Bowen looks to throw the jab but Urg is out of range.

Urg takes the fight into the clinch.
Urg wants to take the fight to the mat but Bowen manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bowen looking to stall.

Urg turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Urg manages to end up in side control.
Urg works to advance to full mount. Bowen defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Urg content just to control the position here.
Urg won't let Bowen get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Urg controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Toni Urg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Bowen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bowen missing with a left hand there. Urg was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
As Bowen backs off Urg throws a huge counter combo but Bowen manages to avoid it all.
A head kick misses from Bowen.
Urg steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Bowen.

Urg bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bowen is looking to get back to his feet here but Urg is keeping cool and he's managed to take Bowen's back.
Urg lands an elbow to the side of the head.


Makebono Bowen's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Bowen is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Urg sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Bowen taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Toni Urg!
