Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quincy Kirk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sage Northcutt!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Northcutt closes the distance and pushes Kirk back into the cage.
Kirk is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Northcutt is defending well for now.

Kirk manages to break the clinch.

Kirk gets a clinch.

Northcutt pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Northcutt shoots in and gets a takedown into Kirk's guard.

Northcutt stands up and waves to Kirk to follow him.
Kirk tries to close the distance and clinch but Northcutt swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Northcutt moves into the clinch.

Kirk manages to break the clinch.

Northcutt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Kirk tries to work over Northcutt's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Kirk escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Northcutt throws a body shot but no joy.

Northcutt closes the distance and pushes Kirk back into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kirk breaks the clinch.
Northcutt slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Northcutt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Northcutt must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kirk isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Northcutt stacks Kirk on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Northcutt!
Kirk is pushing Northcutt's head away, looking to escape. Northcutt manages to hold on to the position though.
Northcutt wants to control but Kirk is keeping him busy.

Northcutt tries for a kimura but Kirk is defending well.

Northcutt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Northcutt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kirk throws Northcutt to one side and escapes!

Northcutt throws a head kick that misses.
Kirk appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Northcutt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kirk napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Kirk sneaks out the side door and pushes Northcutt away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Northcutt clinches up with Kirk and pushes him back against the cage.

Kirk throws a punch but it's blocked by Northcutt.
Kirk is trying to break free.

Kirk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Northcutt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kirk's guard.

Kirk looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Northcutt passes into half guard.
Kirk wants to get back to his feet.

Kirk works his way to full guard. Good work.

Kirk looking for a guillotine here but Northcutt defends easily.

Kirk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Northcutt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Northcutt throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Kirk gets tackled into the cage by Northcutt. Northcutt maintains the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Kirk tries to break the clinch but Northcutt is controlling the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Northcutt's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kirk avoids the head kick by Northcutt.

Northcutt throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Kirk was covering up waiting for the punch and Northcutt finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Kirk kicks Northcutt off and gets to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Northcutt moves into the clinch.
Kirk wants to break free but Northcutt has control.

Northcutt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Northcutt has managed to clinch.

Northcutt has hold of one of Kirk's legs. Kirk is fighting the takedown attempt but Northcutt gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sage Northcutt will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Northcutt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Northcutt blocks the strikes from Kirk.

Northcutt is trying to get an arm triangle but Kirk is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kirk is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Northcutt is controlling him well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Northcutt cracks Kirk with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Northcutt decides to stand back up. Northcutt steps back and let's Kirk get back to his feet.

Northcutt darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Northcutt is breathing heavily.

Kirk has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Northcutt is on him like a limpet, forcing Kirk back against the cage.

Kirk escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Northcutt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Kirk bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Kirk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Northcutt wants to stall.

Northcutt rushes Kirk and presses him up against the cage.

Kirk stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Sage Northcutt seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Kirk lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Northcutt blocks an uppercut.

Kirk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Northcutt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kirk, pushing him back against the cage.
Kirk tries a knee to the head but Northcutt blocks it.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Northcutt gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Kirk keeping moving, preventing Northcutt from controlling successfully.
Northcutt wanted to stand there but Kirk had control of the position.

Kirk has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Northcutt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kirk is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kirk has his foot on Northcutt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Northcutt works his way back into a safe position though.
Northcutt wants to control from the top but Kirk keeps moving.

Kirk shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kirk was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kirk tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Northcutt throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kirk is looking for a counter combo.

Northcutt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Northcutt lands in his opponent's guard.

Kirk stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Kirk wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Northcutt lands a shot to the body.

Northcutt turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Kirk wants to get back to his feet but Northcutt drags him back down.
Kirk manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kirk controlling the position well here. Northcutt rolled but Kirk kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Kirk sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Northcutt taps out!
