PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bastyn Dall (ranked 621 p4p, 71 weight class) and Kazuka Fuujin (ranked 290 p4p, 37 weight class). Dall kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Beast. The crowd seem to be enjoying Fuujin's choice of entrance music: a lot of Asian swag in this young man. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bastyn Dall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kazuka Fuujin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dall throws a sloppy head kick and Fuujin moves out of range easily.
Dall throws a chopping leg kick but Fuujin manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Dall tries a head kick but it misses.
Dall tries a head kick but it misses.
Dall throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Fuujin throws the left hand but Dall avoids the punch easily.
Fuujin takes one to the chin there.
Dall moves out of range of the body kick.
The fighters circling - Fuujin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Dall lands a high kick!
Nice shot lands for Dall.
Dall uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fuujin.
Fuujin goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Fuujin throws a front kick that sends Dall stumbling back into the cage.
Kazuka Fuujin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fuujin moves away from the strike by Dall.

Fuujin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Fuujin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dall is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fuujin trying to control the action but Dall is working from the bottom.
Dall sneaks back into half guard.
Fuujin wants to control but Dall is keeping him busy.
Fuujin is stalling here. Dall is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fuujin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dall has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Fuujin is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Dall tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dall has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Dall wants to control but Fuujin is keeping him busy.

Dall is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fuujin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Dall thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fuujin is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Dall's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Fuujin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dall is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fuujin is just riding it out for now. Dall eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are battling for position here. Fuujin manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Fuujin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fuujin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fuujin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fuujin wants to pass to mount but Dall is defending the position.
Fuujin is trying to control the action in half guard but Dall is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dall is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kazuka Fuujin will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Fuujin attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Fuujin lands a right hook to the body.
Dall goes for a double leg but Fuujin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fuujin continues to drive forward.
Fuujin pivots, looking for a leg kick but Dall is out of range and Fuujin settles back down.
Dall throws a big shot that misses.
Dall avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dall throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Dall misses with a wild body shot.
Fuujin avoids the head kick by Dall.
Fuujin misses with a left hand

and Dall counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Fuujin!
Dall wants to control but Fuujin is keeping him busy.
Fuujin is looking for a sweep.
Fuujin can't do much from the bottom here.
Fuujin tries to buck Dall off but Dall is having none of it.

Dall is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fuujin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Dall is looking to take a break and control but Fuujin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Fuujin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dall is working away from the top position though.

Dall seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fuujin for as long as he can get away with.

Dall wants to take a breather but Fuujin is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Dall slips under a jab.
Fuujin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Dall staying out of range there.
Dall moves out of range as Fuujin strikes.
Dall swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Fuujin checks a leg kick nicely.
Dall fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Fuujin cracks Dall with a right hand to the side of the head.
No joy there for Fuujin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dall lunges at Fuujin with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Fuujin's hand.
Dall checks a low kick from Fuujin.
Fuujin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fuujin's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Dall connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Fuujin scrambles back to his feet.
Fuujin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dall.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fuujin enables Dall to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fuujin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dall avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Dall seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Fuujin throws a jab but it's blocked by Dall.
Dall was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Fuujin swings for the body but Dall moves out of range.
Dall connects with a leg kick. Fuujin looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Dall buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Fuujin lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Fuujin - that will leave a mark!

Fuujin moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Dall swings for the body but Fuujin moves out of range.
Fuujin moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Fuujin gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Fuujin misses with a body shot.
Dall misses with an uppercut. Fuujin saw that one coming.
Dall pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dall uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fuujin.
Fuujin slips under a jab.
Fuujin walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Dall checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Dall looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dall getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Fuujin ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Fuujin scores with a hook.
Fuujin fails to land the takedown.
Dall moves out of range of the strikes.
It looked like Dall wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Dall crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Fuujin - the referee stops the clock and Dall gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Fuujin. Dall manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Fuujin turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Fuujin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dall manages to avoid it.

Fuujin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Fuujin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dall is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fuujin, into his guard.


Fuujin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Dall defends it easily.

Dall trying to control but Fuujin is working from the bottom.
Dall forces his way into half guard.
Bastyn Dall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fuujin tries to get to full guard but Dall has control of the leg.

Dall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fuujin defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Fuujin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dall is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bastyn Dall.
Well Dall has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bastyn Dall decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
