PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fujiwara Tsuyoshi (ranked 1438 p4p, 139 weight class) and Minoru Nakano (ranked 864 p4p, 90 weight class). Nakano is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Great Muta Concerto. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fujiwara Tsuyoshi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Minoru Nakano!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tsuyoshi misses with a lunging right hand
and Nakano counters with a series of strikes. Tsuyoshi will be more careful next time no doubt.
Tsuyoshi drops his hands momentarily and Nakano takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tsuyoshi takes a swing at Nakano's ribcage but misses.
Nice straight punches there by Nakano. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Nakano.

Nakano gets tackled into the cage by Tsuyoshi. Tsuyoshi maintains the clinch.
Tsuyoshi misses with a short punch on the inside.
Nakano is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Tsuyoshi gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Tsuyoshi comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Nakano fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Tsuyoshi tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Nakano throws a punch but it's blocked by Tsuyoshi.
Tsuyoshi misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Nakano.
Tsuyoshi lands an elbow that stopped Nakano in his tracks for a moment.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tsuyoshi tries to land knees in the clinch but Nakano avoids the damage to the body.
Nakano lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tsuyoshi backwards.

Tsuyoshi throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Tsuyoshi goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Tsuyoshi throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Nakano working aggressively here.
Nakano misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Nakano drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tsuyoshi pulls his leg out and moves away.
Nakano has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Tsuyoshi avoids the body shot from Nakano.
Good leg kick by Tsuyoshi there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Tsuyoshi jabs Nakano right on the nose. Nakano blinks but takes it well.

A looping hook to the body misses from Nakano. Tsuyoshi does a little dance to reset his feet.

Tsuyoshi throws a hook to the side of Nakano's head but Nakano sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nakano lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

and Nakano counters with a straight right hand.
Nakano scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nakano ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Nakano's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Nakano duly obliges.

Nakano swings for the body but Tsuyoshi moves out of range.
It looked like Tsuyoshi wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Nakano misses with a hook.
Tsuyoshi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Nakano's calf.
We've been told by Tsuyoshi's head coaches at Samran Muay Thai that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Nakano looks for a takedown but Tsuyoshi sprawls well.
Fujiwara Tsuyoshi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Minoru Nakano.
Nakano throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Tsuyoshi is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Tsuyoshi's corner calls for a 1-2. Tsuyoshi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Tsuyoshi lands with an uppercut that bounces Nakano off the cage and back into range.

Nakano throws out a counter right but Tsuyoshi avoids it with no problem.
Nakano moves into range and connects with a jab.
Tsuyoshi connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nakano. Nakano circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tsuyoshi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Tsuyoshi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nakano.

and Nakano counters with a stiff right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fujiwara Tsuyoshi will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


No joy there for Nakano, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tsuyoshi swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

The crowd cheers as Tsuyoshi lands an impressive looking overhand right. Nakano doesn't seem phased though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nakano! But no joy.
Tsuyoshi wants to clinch up but Nakano keeps it at a distance.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Nakano creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Tsuyoshi is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nakano is defending well for now.
Tsuyoshi pushes Nakano back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Nakano works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Fujiwara Tsuyoshi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tsuyoshi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
