Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Santos Frederick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Buri To!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
To displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Frederick.
Good leg kick by Frederick there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
To fails in his attempt to clinch.
Frederick fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

To changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Frederick looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Check out the look on To's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Frederick gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
To missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Well, if To is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
To slips a nice elbow through Frederick's hands, connecting with Frederick's forehead.
Frederick could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
To sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Frederick defending well though.
To is just content to waste time from the top position. Frederick takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Frederick bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in To's guard.

Frederick is looking to work some ground and pound but To has wrist control.
Frederick trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Frederick is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
To wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Frederick is now in half guard.
To wants to get back to full guard but Frederick has passed into side control.
To trying his best to control but Frederick has mounted him.

To is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
To is in all sorts of trouble here.
To keeps trying to improve his position.
We've been informed that To has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Frederick with shots to the head and body - To looks very uncomfortable down there.

To wants to control but Frederick is having none of it.

To shoots for a double leg takedown but Frederick sprawls well. He's pushed To's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Frederick tries to score a power double leg takedown but To sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Frederick somewhat.
To wants to counter with a clinch but Frederick pushes him away.

To drives through and clinches with Frederick against the cage.
Frederick is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that To can do to turn this around?

A frustrated look appears on To's face as he tries to break the clinch.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Frederick holds on and takes a little breather.
To makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Frederick keeping moving, preventing To from controlling successfully.
To missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
To working some strikes from top position.
To loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Santos Frederick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Frederick pulls To in close to his closed guard and prevents To from doing any damage or advancing position.

To throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Frederick works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Frederick is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
To throws an elbow that misses. Frederick uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in To's guard. Nice move by Frederick!

To keeping moving, preventing Frederick from controlling successfully.
To has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Frederick has passed into side control.

An elbow from Frederick crashes against the mat.
Frederick wants to lay and pray for a moment but To keeps working.
Frederick is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because To is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
To is pushing Frederick's head away, looking to escape. Frederick manages to hold on to the position though.
To is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
To trying to control but Frederick flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
To wants to get back to his feet.
To is really stuck here.
Frederick trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Frederick has the hooks in. To is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
To trying to control the hands but Frederick won't let him.
Frederick has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of To's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santos Frederick dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from To.

To shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Frederick's guard.

Frederick manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
To using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frederick can't break the clinch.
A body shot lands from To.
To goes for a takedown attempt but Frederick pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Frederick tries a low kick but To avoids it.
To is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
To avoids a punch combination nicely.
To lands with a thumping leg kick.
Frederick changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. To tries to avoid it but Frederick manages to keep hold of a leg and drag To to the ground. To escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
To shoots in looking for a takedown but Frederick manages to keep the fight standing, pushing To's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Frederick appears to be looking for a big counter.
Santos Frederick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buri To.

Frederick drives through and clinches with To against the cage.

Frederick ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Frederick no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Frederick lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

To tries to land a sweep but no joy.
To has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
To trying to keep a closed guard but Frederick is proving a slippery customer.
Frederick wants to control from the top but To keeps moving.

To wants to improve his position but instead Frederick has moved into half guard.
To is looking to get back to full guard here but Frederick has managed to pass to side control instead.
Frederick wants to lay and pray for a moment but To keeps working.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if To can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Frederick, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
