PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Piston Honda (ranked 4312 p4p, 503 weight class) and Christopher Gladney (ranked 5656 p4p, 615 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Honda might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Sakura. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gladney throws a right and a left that both miss.
Honda definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gladney takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Nice sprawl there from Honda as Gladney shoots in.
Honda chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Honda keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gladney motions for Honda to come forward. Gladney throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gladney looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gladney tries to land a front kick but Honda steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Honda half committed to a counter leg kick.
Gladney throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Honda's waist but Honda gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gladney off to one side.
Piston Honda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Christopher Gladney.
Honda turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Crunch! Honda slams his shin into Gladney's torso.
Gladney finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Honda swats away the attempt to clinch by Gladney.
Gladney looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Honda is fending him off so far but Gladney persists. Nope, Honda circles away and we're back to standing.

Honda is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gladney.

Christopher Gladney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gladney tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Honda defends well and Gladney ends up having to push Honda into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
As Gladney backs away, Honda returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Gladney on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Gladney shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Honda but Honda pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Gladney misses with a takedown attempt - Honda sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gladney looks to clinch
and Honda counters with a nice body kick.
Gladney darts in looking for a takedown but Honda gets double underhooks and turns Gladney into the cage.
Honda throws a hook but Gladney avoids it easily.
Honda lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Gladney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Honda as he avoids it easily.
Honda avoids the head kick by Gladney.
Gladney's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Honda thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Gladney if he has to take too many more of those.
Honda feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gladney's calf.

Honda drops Gladney with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Gladney looks back up at him and smiles so Honda waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Gladney is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Gladney might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Honda has got the better of the exchanges.

Gladney drops his hands momentarily. Honda doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Gladney staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Gladney doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.
