PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Conrad (ranked 5910 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Cage (ranked 24948 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Frankie Conrad!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eddie Cage!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage feints and as Conrad raises his hands in defense, Cage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Conrad is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cage is looking to work some ground and pound but Conrad has wrist control.
Conrad controlling the position.
Conrad will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Conrad wants to stand and escape but Cage is having none of it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Conrad is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cage defends well.

Cage is nestled in close to Conrad, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Conrad parries the strikes from Cage easily there. Cage is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Conrad to escape.

Cage is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Conrad knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Conrad wants to get back to his feet but Cage drags him back down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cage is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Conrad's shoulder. That is not cool.
Cage tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Cage content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Conrad is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cage fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Conrad sprawls well initially but Cage persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Cage is just content to waste time from the top position. Conrad takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Conrad pushes Cage off looking to stand but Cage dives back in and keeps control.
Conrad has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cage is working away from the top position though.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Conrad sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

You get the feeling that Conrad really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Cage trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Cage lands a big elbow.

Cage goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Conrad turns into him and now he's in Cage's guard.
Cage preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Cage manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Conrad manages to get himself to full guard.

Cage wants to pass the guard but Conrad is keeping the position.
Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Conrad is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Conrad has control of Cage's left arm, preventing Cage from doing any damage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cage postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Conrad knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cage on the ground.

Cage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Conrad swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eddie Cage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cage has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
