Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Simpson (ranked 7764 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drake Lightning (ranked 5980 p4p, 620 weight class). Drake Lightning is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ernie Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Drake Lightning!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simpson doesn't manage to clinch there - Lightning circles away.

Simpson tries to sprawl but Lightning drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Lightning scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Still in half guard, Lightning seems content to control.
Simpson trying to control from the bottom.
It looks like Lightning is going to stand back up.
Lightning landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lightning controlling the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lightning looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Simpson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lightning is nestled in close to Simpson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Lightning is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lightning works his foot free and advances to mount.
Lightning with shots to the head and body - Simpson looks very uncomfortable down there.

Lightning controlling from mount.
Simpson is desperately trying to improve his position but Lightning has a good base and remains in mount.
Lightning controlling the position easily from mount.
Lightning raining down hammerfists from mount.

Lightning with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Lightning tries to get up but Simpson was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard.
Simpson throws a big right hand that misses.

Lightning has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Simpson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Simpson prevents Lightning from getting back to his feet.

Simpson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Lightning is pulling down on Simpson's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lightning looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lightning looking for a sweep. Not yet Lightning, not yet.
Lightning working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Simpson.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake Lightning dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Lightning fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Simpson, pushing him back against the cage.
Simpson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Simpson misses with a punch on the inside.
Simpson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Lightning prevents it.

Lightning's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Lightning shoots in and gets a takedown into Simpson's guard.
Lightning has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lightning not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Lightning wants to pass the guard but Simpson is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lightning seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Lightning is continuing to stall.
Lightning stands and throws Simpson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Simpson seems a little lost for a moment, as Lightning dominates the positioning.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lightning's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Simpson can't do much from the bottom here.
Lightning wants to stand but Simpson is controlling his arm.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lightning cracks Simpson with a big elbow.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Lightning creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Lightning slows the pace down.
The adventures of Lightning the control monster continue. Boring.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Drake Lightning seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A lazy left from Lightning finds it's target.
A big left from Lightning misses.

Lightning drives through with a takedown into Simpson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Lightning would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Lightning keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Simpson's head.
Lightning trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Simpson manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Simpson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lightning is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Simpson, into his guard.

Simpson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lightning is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake Lightning showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Lightning pulls Simpson into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lightning can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lightning managing to control the position.
Simpson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lightning wants to stand but Simpson is controlling the position.

Lightning throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Simpson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Simpson trying to control but Lightning is working from the bottom.
Simpson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lightning works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Lightning changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Simpson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Simpson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Simpson is trying to escape the position but Lightning is controlling the position.

Simpson wants to control but Lightning postures up.
Lightning tries to stand but Simpson is controlling his head.
Simpson is trying to control Lightning's posture but Lightning avoids it.
Lightning controlling from side mount.
Lightning scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Simpson to see if he's OK.

Lightning in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Simpson is not content to let Lightning control the position.

Lightning tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lightning working the ground and pound but Simpson is defending the strikes.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Lightning decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lightning attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Simpson seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Lightning shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Simpson's guard.
Lightning wants to stand but Simpson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lightning's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lightning pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Simpson is keeping the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Drake Lightning comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lightning has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
