PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jin Jin Ipa (ranked 1841 p4p, 210 weight class) and Kim Duk Koo (ranked 3199 p4p, 345 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jin Jin Ipa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kim Duk Koo!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duk Koo thuds a left hand into Ipa's body.
Duk Koo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Ipa misses with a takedown attempt
and Duk Koo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ipa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Duk Koo counters with a two punch combo.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ipa or perhaps it was just good defense by Duk Koo, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Jin Ipa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ipa has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ipa there as he acknowledges the shot.
Duk Koo scores with a hook to the body. Ipa takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Duk Koo stuns Ipa with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Duk Koo lands with a straight right. Ipa didn't see that one coming.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ipa shoots in looking for a takedown. Duk Koo tries to sprawl out of it but Ipa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Duk Koo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Donk. Duk Koo catches Ipa right on the button with a cross.

Ipa has a takedown stuffed.
Ipa has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Ipa tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Duk Koo defends well and Ipa ends up having to push Duk Koo into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Ipa gets a double leg takedown into Duk Koo's guard.
Duk Koo looking for a sweep. Not yet Duk Koo, not yet.
Duk Koo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ipa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ipa wants to pass the guard but Duk Koo is keeping the position.
Duk Koo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Ipa throwing strikes from guard but Duk Koo blocks nicely.

Ipa throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Ipa trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Duk Koo preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ipa trying to control but Duk Koo is working from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ipa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Duk Koo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ipa looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Duk Koo is avoiding damage well.
Ipa just content to control the position.
Check out the look on Ipa's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Duk Koo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Ipa working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Ipa lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Ipa thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ipa misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duk Koo managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ipa.
Ipa tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Duk Koo tries to bench press Ipa off him but Ipa keeps the position.

Ipa tries to score with some ground and pound. Duk Koo controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Duk Koo can do anything to dispel that myth.
Duk Koo is looking to regain half guard here but Ipa keeps moving and retains side control.
Ipa moves into full mount!
Ipa looking to ground and pound but Duk Koo is blocking nicely.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ipa landing punches.
Ipa throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ipa sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Ipa breaks from Duk Koo's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ipa is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Duk Koo can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Jin Ipa dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Duk Koo gets caught flat footed, as Ipa shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ipa postures up in Duk Koo's guard and throws a big left but Duk Koo blocks it.
Duk Koo keeping moving, preventing Ipa from controlling successfully.
Duk Koo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ipa wants to control from the top but Duk Koo keeps moving.
Ipa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ipa working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Duk Koo can't keep his opponent in guard - Ipa advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Ipa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Duk Koo can do to turn this around?

Ipa working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ipa not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Duk Koo has hold of Ipa's hands but Ipa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Ipa is controlling the pace.
Ipa is trying to control the action in half guard but Duk Koo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ipa is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Duk Koo has hold of Ipa's hands but Ipa slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Ipa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ipa trying to control the action but Duk Koo is working from the bottom.
Ipa works his way into side control.

Ipa lands a nice forearm strike.
Ipa tries to score with some ground and pound. Duk Koo controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Ipa cracks Duk Koo with a big right hand but Duk Koo just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Ipa is working to tighten his grip on Duk Koo's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Duk Koo has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ipa is really squeezing tight and eventually Duk Koo passes out! Ipa breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jin Jin Ipa!
Jin Jin Ipa tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
