Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Wells (ranked 6972 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Stroev (ranked 6161 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Trevor Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Victor Stroev!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stroev misses with a head kick.

Stroev fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Wells, pushing him back against the cage.

Stroev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wells avoids the head kick by Stroev.
Stroev throws a head kick that misses
and Wells counters with a one-two to the body.
Stroev fails with a takedown attempt.
Stroev misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stroev looks to land a body kick but Wells moved away.

Stroev moves into the clinch.

Wells jumps into guard, dragging Stroev to the mat.
Wells is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Stroev advances position into side control!
Wells is looking to reverse the position.
Wells manages to work his way to half guard, despite Stroev's best efforts.
Stroev is controlling the pace.
Wells makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wells.
Stroev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wells is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Wells not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Wells is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wells is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stroev is controlling him.
Stroev chips away with some ground and pound.

Wells lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Wells postures up in Stroev's guard and throws a big left but Stroev blocks it.

Stroev wants to stand but Wells is controlling the position.
Wells has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stroev is on top in guard.

Wells manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stroev manages to get himself to full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Trevor Wells will probably get the nod.

Wells goes for a double leg but Stroev avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stroev continues to drive forward.
Stroev throws a hook but Wells avoids it easily.
Stroev shoots for a double leg takedown but Wells sprawls well. He's pushed Stroev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stroev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Wells tries to counter with a takedown but Stroev is quick to defend against it.
Stroev is breathing heavily.
Stroev closes the distance and clinches up with Wells, looking for a takedown. Stroev pushes Wells against the cage but Wells circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Trevor Wells has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Stroev.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wells connects with a nice short shot to Stroev's temple.

Wells seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stroev does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stroev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stroev can do anything to dispel that myth.

Wells looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Stroev with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wells in particular looking to stall.

Wells thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stroev's head.

Stroev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wells. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wells throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wells doesn't manage to clinch there - Stroev circles away.
Stroev throws a leg kick but Wells sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Stroev clinches up with Wells and pushes him back against the cage.

Stroev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stroev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Stroev gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Wells fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Stroev lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Wells is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stroev gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Wells has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Stroev uses from the top position.

Wells bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stroev's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wells accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Stroev is looking to stand up but Wells isn't so interested in that idea.
Stroev wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Stroev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wells doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wells manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wells has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wells working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Wells passes Stroev's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Wells winds up and cracks Stroev with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Stroev kicks off Wells and gets to his feet.

Wells goes for a takedown in the clinch but Stroev prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trevor Wells. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wells, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
