PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Miles North (ranked 2284 p4p, 279 weight class) and Pascual Perez (ranked 3839 p4p, 438 weight class). North's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Men at Work - Down Under. Perez is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Another One Bites The Dust. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miles North!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 21 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Dean Styles and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from North.

North throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Perez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. North is in Perez's guard.
North lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

North postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Perez told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

North got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, North has managed to get both his arms back between Perez's legs - danger averted.

North is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

North passes Perez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
North is trying to control. Perez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
North is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've been hearing good reports from North's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

North is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Perez can do to turn this around?
North connects with a crisp jab.

and North connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
North lands a high kick!
Perez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
North delivers a nice body kick.
North fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Perez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

North feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Perez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. North gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
North really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Perez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! North escapes and throws Perez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

North is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Perez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The referee asks North politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. North prefers to stall for the moment though.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Perez tries to close the distance and clinch up but North swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Perez closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Perez lands with a nice combination. North backs away looking to recover.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

North is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Perez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Perez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

North wants to take the fight to the mat but Perez manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miles North. That's going to take a lot out of him.

North seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

North postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Perez on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Perez doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Miles North!
A very excited looking Miles North made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
