PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dylan Lapidus (ranked 6343 p4p, 433 weight class) and Great Tiger (ranked 6399 p4p, 434 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dylan Lapidus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Great Tiger!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lapidus avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Tiger looks to land a combination but Lapidus avoids it well.
As Tiger tries to get set, Lapidus tries to push him back and clinch up but Tiger manages to avoid the attempt.
Lapidus connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Lapidus is looking to clinch.
Tiger cracks Lapidus with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Tiger connects with a jab.
Lapidus gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Tiger moves away from the strike by Lapidus.
Lapidus misses with a looping left.
Donk. Tiger catches Lapidus right on the button with a cross.

Tiger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lapidus tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tiger wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Tiger is looking to take a break and control but Lapidus is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Lapidus can't do much from the bottom here.

Lapidus pushes Tiger away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tiger gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Lapidus tries to buck Tiger off but Tiger is having none of it.
Lapidus wants to control but Tiger postures up.
Tiger throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Lapidus can't do much from the bottom here.
Lapidus tries to escape but Tiger is in control.
Lapidus's coaches at ~T~ Troid - Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Lapidus is trying to work for a sweep but Tiger has mounted him!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Tiger cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
You get the feeling that Lapidus really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Tiger tries to control but Lapidus wriggling away.
Tiger looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Lapidus tries to lock up and control but Tiger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Tiger with a couple of short strikes.
Tiger avoids the attempt from Lapidus to control.
Tiger lands a heavy elbow.
Tiger wants to control the pace but Lapidus is squirming around nicely.
Tiger prevents Lapidus from getting the reversal.
Lapidus slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Lapidus wants to get back to his feet.
Lapidus trying to control from the bottom.
Tiger trying to control the action but Lapidus is working from the bottom.

Lapidus is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tiger pulls his head out easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tiger winds up and cracks Lapidus with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lapidus is not content to let Tiger control the position.
Tiger working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Tiger seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Lapidus keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Tiger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lapidus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lapidus wants to control but Tiger is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lapidus tries to kick Tiger off but Tiger keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Tiger not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Tiger misses with a head shot. Lapidus uses the momentum to regain guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tiger throws a big elbow that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lapidus working a defensive guard but Tiger passes into half guard.
Tiger working over Lapidus with some ground and pound. Lapidus looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Tiger stalling away here and it's allowed Lapidus to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Tiger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lapidus swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tiger trying to control the position from guard on top but Lapidus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tiger looking to sit in guard and control but Lapidus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Great Tiger dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A left and a right from Tiger both land. Nice combination.
Tiger connects with a looping right hand.
Great Tiger seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lapidus shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Tiger lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Tiger stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Tiger will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lapidus throws an overhand right that lands on Tiger's shoulder, as Tiger tries to avoid the shot.
Lapidus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tiger paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A slow jab from Lapidus misses its intended target.
Nice jab there from Tiger.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lapidus takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Tiger drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Lapidus is trying to improve his position.
Tiger misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Lapidus is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Tiger is working Lapidus over with some ground and pound from side control.
Tiger has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tiger taking a break here but Lapidus is having none of it and regains half guard.
Tiger is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tiger landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Lapidus is doing well to control the position and prevent Tiger from advancing to side control.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tiger's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Lapidus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lapidus is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Lapidus is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tiger is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Tiger connects with a nice looking jab.

Lapidus listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Lapidus has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Lapidus there as he acknowledges the shot.
Lapidus throws a hook to the side of Tiger's head but Tiger sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lapidus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tiger swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Tiger comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Tiger jabs Lapidus to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Oooh a lovely combination from Tiger sends Lapidus down but not out. Tiger dives into side control looking to finish.


Lapidus is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tiger scores with a couple of short elbows.
Oh Lapidus is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tiger cracks Lapidus with a big elbow.
You can see the frustration on Lapidus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Great Tiger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Lapidus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A little jabbing left from Tiger on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Lapidus seems to have got his legs back now.
Tiger jabs at Lapidus's body.
A jab from Tiger does it's job there.
Lapidus takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tiger lands a nice shot to the body.
Tiger misses with a few strikes there.
Lapidus is looking to counter punch.

Tiger waves his right hand out in front of him, looking to distract Lapidus. Oh, he's unloaded a beast of a left hand - it worked! He's dropped Lapidus to the canvas! Can he finish him!?
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tiger postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Lapidus covers up, he's hurt! Tiger keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Tiger and the ref steps in to end the fight! Tiger can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Great Tiger!
Our winner, Great Tiger, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
