PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between MIke Duncan (ranked 6204 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kurt Remarque (ranked 5917 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, MIke Duncan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kurt Remarque!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duncan drives through and clinches with Remarque against the cage.
Remarque is trying to pull guard but Duncan has him pressed against the cage.
Duncan stalls.
Duncan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Duncan jumps guard and drags Remarque to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Remarque wants to control from the top but Duncan keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duncan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Duncan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Duncan buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Duncan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Remarque paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Duncan gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Remarque.

A jab-cross combination lands for Remarque and sends Duncan crashing to the mat! Remarque follows him down to the mat - Duncan regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!


It looks like MIke Duncan has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Duncan looks like he's trying to stand up.

Remarque is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Duncan misses with some strikes from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Remarque wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Duncan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Remarque, pushing him back against the cage.

Duncan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Remarque regains guard immediately.
Remarque controls Duncan momentarily but Duncan frees himself.
Duncan trying to control but Remarque is working from the bottom.
Remarque trying to keep a closed guard but Duncan is proving a slippery customer.

Duncan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Remarque has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Duncan has managed to get both his arms back between Remarque's legs - danger averted.
Remarque manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Duncan manages to get himself to full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Duncan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Remarque lands with an overhand left.

Duncan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Remarque did well to prevent Duncan getting side control.

Duncan decides to stand up.
Remarque throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Remarque throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Duncan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Remarque swinging wildly here.

Duncan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Remarque to the mat! Remarque manages to get full guard.
Duncan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Remarque on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Duncan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Remarque is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Remarque wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duncan keeps working.
Remarque might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Duncan haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Duncan is looking to improve his position.

Remarque is trying to control. Duncan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Remarque is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Duncan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Remarque.

Remarque seems to be working for a kimura but Duncan defends the submission attempt.
Duncan is trying to get back to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Remarque passes to full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Remarque throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Remarque thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Duncan is squirming around, avoiding Remarque's attempts to control the action.
Kurt Remarque has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Duncan is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kurt Remarque showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Duncan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The crowd cheers as Remarque lands an impressive looking overhand right. Duncan doesn't seem phased though.

Remarque gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Duncan to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Duncan wants to pass the guard but Remarque is keeping the position.

Duncan gets to his feet. Remarque looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Remarque connects with a nice looking jab.
Duncan darts in trying to clinch
and Duncan takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Duncan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Remarque paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Duncan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Duncan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kurt Remarque is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Remarque moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to MIke Duncan.
I think Remarque has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
