PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lucifer Morningstar (ranked 4265 p4p, 344 weight class) and Robert Bruce (ranked 5072 p4p, 379 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucifer Morningstar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robert Bruce!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Santiago Holmes and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bruce misses with a low kick.
Bruce misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Bruce has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Morningstar is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Morningstar blocks a jab.
Bruce stuffs the takedown.
Bruce is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Morningstar avoids a punch combination nicely.

Morningstar gets a double leg takedown into Bruce's guard.

Bruce has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Morningstar is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bruce breaks the clinch.
Lucifer Morningstar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Morningstar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bruce tries to avoid it but Morningstar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bruce to the ground. Bruce escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Morningstar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Morningstar showed some decent athleticism there.

Bruce manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Morningstar keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Bruce just misses with a elbow thrown towards Morningstar's brow.

Bruce breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bruce throws a right and a left that Morningstar avoids nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Bruce enables Morningstar to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Bruce manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Morningstar wants to control from the top but Bruce keeps moving.

Morningstar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morningstar wants to pass the guard but Bruce is keeping the position.

Morningstar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bruce wants to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Morningstar is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Bruce can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Morningstar seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Bruce is holding on tight.

Morningstar has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bruce has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Morningstar is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Bruce knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Bruce for a finish.

Bruce throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Morningstar stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Bruce will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Robert Bruce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Morningstar doesn't succeed with the takedown

Morningstar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bruce pinned against the cage. Bruce gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Oooooh!!! Bruce has knocked Morningstar down with a huge combo! Bruce steps away and waves a wobbly Morningstar back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
