PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edmond Honda (ranked 2911 p4p, 108 weight class) and Elly Barnard (ranked 3007 p4p, 113 weight class). Honda comes to the cage accompanied by E. Honda Stage Theme Extended. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edmond Honda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elly Barnard!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Honda.
Barnard with the counter takedown but Honda avoids it easily.

It looks like Edmond Honda has been cut.
Barnard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Barnard thuds his right hand into Honda's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barnard can do anything to dispel that myth.

Honda creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Barnard sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Barnard wants to get back to his feet.
Honda tries to score with some ground and pound. Barnard controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Honda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Honda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Honda postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Honda has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barnard is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Barnard takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edmond Honda dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Honda throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barnard sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Honda takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Honda lands with an uppercut that bounces Barnard off the cage and back into range.
Barnard takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Barnard fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Honda on the side of the head.
Honda tries a head kick but it misses.
Barnard lands a jab to the nose.


Edmond Honda's cut is getting worse.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Honda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Honda showed some decent athleticism there.
Honda lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Barnard quite badly. Barnard pulls Honda in close trying to recover. Honda postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Barnard on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Barnard doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Edmond Honda!
Edmond Honda bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
