Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Albert Aliev (ranked 25841 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Volkov (ranked 25878 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Albert Aliev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aliev misses with a body kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Aliev or perhaps it was just good defense by Volkov, which made it look bad.
Volkov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Volkov misses with an uppercut. Aliev saw that one coming.
Volkov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Aliev darts in and clinches Volkov up against the cage.

Volkov ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Volkov no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Volkov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Volkov regains half guard.
Volkov keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Volkov is looking for a sweep. Aliev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Volkov is looking for a triangle but Aliev pushes his legs off easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Volkov looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Aliev has picked Volkov up and slammed him! Volkov can't keep hold of the triangle and Aliev manages to pass to side control!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Volkov shoots in but Aliev avoids the takedown attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Aleksandr Volkov will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Volkov closes the distance and clinches up with Aliev, looking for a takedown. Volkov pushes Aliev against the cage but Aliev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Aliev fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Volkov defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Aliev.
Volkov goes for a double leg but Aliev avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Aliev continues to drive forward.
Volkov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aliev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Volkov somewhat.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Volkov in particular looking to stall.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Volkov seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Aleksandr Volkov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Aleksandr Volkov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
