Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Royal Vasquez (ranked 25247 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mashu Khan (ranked 5716 p4p, 0 weight class). Royal Vasquez has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Royal Vasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mashu Khan!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Khan.

Vasquez bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Khan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Vasquez has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Khan has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Khan has Vasquez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Khan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Vasquez tumbling to the mat - Khan dives into Vasquez's guard.

Vasquez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Vasquez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Khan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vasquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan is stalling in the full guard.
Khan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vasquez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Khan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Khan wants to pass to mount but Vasquez is defending the position.
Vasquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Vasquez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Khan stays in close to Vasquez's body and controls the position.
Vasquez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Khan postures up.
Khan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Vasquez is working an open guard so Khan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Khan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vasquez to the mat! Vasquez manages to get full guard.

Vasquez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Khan defends well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Royal Vasquez will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Khan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Vasquez scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Khan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Vasquez is not content to let Khan control the position.
Vasquez is looking for a sweep.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khan controls the position.
Mashu Khan has got the better of the ground game so far.

Khan stands up and beckons Vasquez to his feet.

Khan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Vasquez on his heels. He'll look to pass Vasquez's guard now, I'm sure.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Khan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Vasquez has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Khan is on him like a limpet, forcing Vasquez back against the cage.

Khan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Vasquez gets caught flat footed, as Khan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Vasquez manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Khan has Vasquez pressed against the cage, preventing Vasquez from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice jab there from Khan.

Vasquez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Vasquez is trying to control the position but Khan postures up.
Vasquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mashu Khan will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Khan postures up in Vasquez's guard and throws a big left but Vasquez blocks it.

Vasquez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Vasquez is trying to keep Khan in close.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Khan shoots in and gets a takedown into Vasquez's guard.
Vasquez pulls Khan in close to prevent any damage.

Vasquez throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Vasquez wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Khan drives through and clinches with Vasquez against the cage.
Khan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Vasquez's efforts to push away.

Khan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Khan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vasquez to the mat! Vasquez manages to get full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mashu Khan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Khan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
