PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wendall White (ranked 8012 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Wright (ranked 24492 p4p, 0 weight class). Wright has chosen Warped Mind as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wendall White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Wright!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from White.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wright is defended easily by White.
Wright stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wright wants it to stay on the feet.
Wright is looking for the big counter here.
Horrible takedown attempt by Wright or perhaps it was just good defense by White, which made it look bad.
White keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wendall White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Wright.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White shoots in for a takedown but Wright shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

White moves into range and clinches up with Wright.

Wright manages to break the clinch.
Wright tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
White seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

White gets off balance looking for a body kick
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
White stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Wright.
Wright pulls out of a head kick attempt.
White is looking for a counter combo.

White drives through and clinches with Wright against the cage.

White breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

White gets a takedown into half guard.

White is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wright has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wright has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. White is working away from the top position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
White not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
White looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
White thows a huge punch but Wright dodges it nicely.
Wright avoiding damage under a succession of punches from White.
White is thwarting Wright's attempts to control the position.

White decides to return to a standing position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Wright gets a double leg takedown into White's guard.

White has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Wright is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Wright preventing the sweep.
White controlling the position.
White keeping moving, preventing Wright from controlling successfully.
Wright looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

White seems keen to control Wright's posture.
White manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wright manages to get himself to full guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wright wants to sweep but no luck.
White engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wendall White dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



White gets a clinch.
White is pressed up against the cage. Wright has hold of a leg and is looking to drag White down to the mat. White avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
White goes for a double leg but Wright avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wright continues to drive forward.
White fails with a takedown attempt.
Wright lands a nice looking body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
White is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wright can do to turn this around?

White decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Wright blocks a leg kick.
White stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and White wants it to stay on the feet.
White seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Wright connects with a high kick.

White drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wright kicks White off and gets to his feet.
White throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wright shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says White as he avoids it easily.
Wendall White has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Wright.
Wright is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wright will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
White appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Wright gets tackled into the cage by White. White maintains the clinch.
White misses with a hook to the ribs.
White changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Wright fights it off and pushes away nicely.

White gets a clinch.
White wants a takedown.
White manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The referee calls for White to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wright escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
White is looking to clinch but Wright is avoiding it.
Wright tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but White defends well and Wright ends up having to push White into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Wright lands a straight punch to the body, keeping White at a distance.
Wright throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
White misses with a combination
and Wright counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
White stuffs the takedown attempt from Wright. Wright gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wright looks for a takedown but White sprawls well.

White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

White has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

White gets a double leg takedown into Wright's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
White slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
White is pushing down on Wright's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wright is fighting to maintain full guard but White has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wendall White will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

White fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wright to the ground. White is now in Wright's guard.
White is standing up over Wright. Wright looks to escape but White dives into side control.

Wright is trying to improve his position.
White works to advance to full mount. Wright defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White unloads with some shots from mount but Wright bucks and avoids them well.
White controlling from mount.
White throws a wild left hand from mount and Wright manages to wriggle his way back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wright is looking for a sweep. White is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
White passes to side control.

White has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Wright is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. White yanks on the arm and Wright is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by White.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Wendall White!
Alex Wright was interviewed post fight and said 'When I sign a contract, I really want to give 180%. And if I can't give that, it's just not fair to the promotion and it's not fair to the fans and it's not fair to myself'.
