PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jc Cobb (ranked 9564 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaplan Temrezov (ranked 6214 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jc Cobb!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kaplan Temrezov!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Vladimir Khabensky and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Temrezov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cobb keeping full guard, as Temrezov tries to pass.
Temrezov controlling from the top position.
Cobb seems keen to control Temrezov's posture.
Temrezov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Temrezov wants to pass the guard but Cobb is keeping the position.

Cobb looking for a guillotine here but Temrezov defends easily.

Cobb is looking for a triangle but Temrezov pushes his legs off easily.
Temrezov wants to control from the top but Cobb keeps moving.

Temrezov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cobb dives on top into guard.

Cobb postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Temrezov looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Cobb has picked Temrezov up and slammed him! Temrezov can't keep hold of the triangle and Cobb manages to pass to side control!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Temrezov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Cobb is trying to get an arm triangle but Temrezov is defending well.

Cobb decides to stand and escape the position.

Temrezov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cobb tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Temrezov is in Cobb's guard.
Temrezov is looking to advance position but Cobb has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Cobb manages to capitalize on a mistake by Temrezov to take his back!

Temrezov just trying to survive but Cobb is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Temrezov manages to reverse the position and now he's in Cobb's guard. Nice work there by Temrezov.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kaplan Temrezov will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Temrezov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cobb to the ground. Temrezov is now in Cobb's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cobb has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Temrezov looking to sit in guard and control but Cobb gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cobb wants to stand but Temrezov is controlling his posture from full guard.

Temrezov looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cobb passes into half guard.

Cobb is looking for a kimura here.
Cobb will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cobb takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Temrezov is pressing down on Cobb's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Cobb stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Temrezov is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cobb's half guard.
Temrezov wants to stand up but Cobb has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Temrezov looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Cobb is looking for a sweep. Temrezov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Temrezov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cobb with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cobb is trying to control but can't.
Temrezov trying to control the action but Cobb is working from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Temrezov is thwarting Cobb's attempts to control the position.
Cobb controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Temrezov is trying to control the action in half guard but Cobb is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cobb shoots in but no luck this time.
Cobb shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Temrezov but Temrezov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Temrezov is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaplan Temrezov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Temrezov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cobb shoots in for a takedown but Temrezov shows good takedown defense.
Cobb really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cobb is trying to escape the position but Temrezov is controlling the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cobb misses with a takedown attempt - Temrezov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Temrezov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jc Cobb. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cobb closes the distance and clinches.

Temrezov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Temrezov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

What's Cobb going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Temrezov wants to stand but Cobb is controlling his arm.
Temrezov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Cobb manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Temrezov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cobb is doing well to control the position and prevent Temrezov from advancing to side control.

Kaplan Temrezov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kaplan Temrezov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Temrezov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
