PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Leach (ranked 25324 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Mont (ranked 6319 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gabriel Leach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Peter Mont!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Colin Fray.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Leach clinches.
Mont works on Leach's body with a couple of short punches.

Mont pulls guard.
Leach passes Mont's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mont is trying to maintain the position but Leach is very close to passing his half guard.
Leach seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Leach postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Mont to stand up.
Mont throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
It looked like Leach was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Mont.

Leach instigates a clinch.
Good body shot from Leach.
With the fighters up against the cage, Leach throws an elbow but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Leach breaks the clinch.
Mont scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Mont tries to clinch but Leach moves out of range.
Leach really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Mont comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Mont thumps Leach with a low kick.
Leach throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Mont looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Leach!
Leach struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leach tries to buck Mont off but Mont is having none of it.

Leach manages to get back to half guard.
Leach wants to get back to his feet.
Mont looks winded!
The fighters are battling for position here. Leach manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Leach is on top in guard.

Leach throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mont works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Leach is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mont has momentary wrist control but Leach slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mont not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Leach gets to his feet. Mont looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Leach has taken the fight to the clinch.
Leach lands a body shot in the clinch.
A short body shot lands from Leach as the two fighters clinch.
Leach looking to throw knees to the head but Mont is blocking nicely.

Leach's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Mont doesn't manage to clinch there - Leach circles away.

Leach goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Leach has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Leach with an attempt at a knee that misses.
The referee is keeping an eye on Leach - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Leach is trying to pull guard but Mont turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Mont looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Mont drags the fight down to the ground.
Leach trying to control but Mont is working from the bottom.
Leach throws a big right hand that misses.

Leach working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Leach has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Leach drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Leach jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Mont shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Leach pulls Mont in close to prevent any damage.
Mont wants to control from the top but Leach keeps moving.
Mont wants to stand but Leach has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Leach looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Mont is breathing heavily.

Leach scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mont is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Leach drops back looking for a leg! Mont is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mont manages to kick Leach off! Leach jumps back into Mont's guard.
Gabriel Leach overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Leach works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Leach is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mont sees it coming and defends easily.
Leach lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
