The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fernandes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barnes was covering up waiting for the punch and Fernandes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fernandes trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Barnes is trying to keep Fernandes in close.
Fernandes is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fernandes wants to take a breather but Barnes is having none of it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Barnes tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Barnes really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Fernandes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Barnes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Barnes is trying to control but can't.
Barnes is trying to get back to full guard.
Barnes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Fernandes scores with a couple of nice shots.

Fernandes passes the guard and advances to mount!

Fernandes has hold of Barnes's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Barnes manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Fernandes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Barnes is looking to escape.
Barnes really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Barnes wants to control but Fernandes is having none of it.

Barnes tries to control Fernandes's head but Fernandes pushes him back down and moves quickly to lock up an arm here - he's swung around for an armbar! Will he get it??? Yes! Barnes is tapping out! Lovely Jiu Jitsu there!
