The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Rijn lands a head kick. Mafaking smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Van Rijn goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Mafaking fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Van Rijn looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Van Rijn works Mafaking's body with a nice hook.
Mike Van Rijn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Van Rijn takes the fight into the clinch.
Van Rijn lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Mafaking blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A head punch on the inside from Mafaking fails to land.
Mafaking tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Van Rijn throws a punch but it's blocked by Mafaking.
A hook to the body from Van Rijn.
Van Rijn doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Van Rijn tries to work over Mafaking's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mafaking lands on the inside with an uppercut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mafaking throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Mafaking blocks an uppercut.
Mafaking is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Van Rijn can't fight it off and eventually Mafaking manages to take the fight to the floor. Van Rijn looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mafaking advances to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Van Rijn tries to get to full guard but Mafaking has control of the leg.
Van Rijn is trying to stand.
Mafaking is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Van Rijn is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
