Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Damien Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gregory Peck!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alvarez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Peck is trying to defend but Alvarez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alvarez in particular looking to stall.

Still in half guard, Alvarez seems content to control.
Alvarez wants to free his trapped foot but Peck is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Alvarez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Peck with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Alvarez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Alvarez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Peck to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Peck shrugs it off.

Peck tries to lock up and control but Alvarez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peck really wants to buck Alvarez off and get back to his feet.

Alvarez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Peck is desperately trying to improve his position but Alvarez has a good base and remains in mount.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt - Peck sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Peck throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Damien Alvarez has been cut.

Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown. Peck tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Peck manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Damien Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Peck shapes to counter with a head kick.
Alvarez shoots for a double leg takedown but Peck sprawls well. He's pushed Alvarez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Damien Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Peck lands a big head kick that sends Alvarez tumbling to the mat! Peck takes a step backwards and waves Alvarez back to his feet - he wants the finish!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alvarez has hold of Peck's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Peck seems comfortable defending it but Alvarez has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Peck is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Peck is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Alvarez couldn't care less - he's delighted!

After winning the bout, Damien Alvarez thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
