PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sammie Elliott (ranked 25319 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mashu Khan (ranked 7205 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sammie Elliott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mashu Khan!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan has a takedown stuffed.
Elliott is looking to counter the offense by Khan and move into the clinch.
Khan misses with a takedown attempt - Elliott sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Khan steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Elliott.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Elliott enables Khan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Elliott manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Elliott seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Khan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Elliott counters with a left and a right that stings Khan.

Khan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Elliott sprawls well. Elliott wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Khan gets slowly back to his feet.
Khan goes for a double leg but Elliott avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Elliott continues to drive forward.
Khan throws a hook to the side of Elliott's head but Elliott sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Khan shoots in looking for a takedown but Elliott manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Khan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
As Khan looks to move away, Elliott throws a big counter combo but Khan just gets out of the way.

Elliott closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Khan to the mat! Khan manages to get full guard.
Elliott is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Elliott decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Khan, up you get!

Khan is stalling here. Elliott is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Khan seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Elliott has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Elliott is trying to drag Khan to the mat but Khan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Khan gets control of Elliott's arms and successfully pulls guard. Khan will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Elliott seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Elliott connects with a nice short shot to Khan's temple.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Elliott is thwarting Khan's attempts to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Elliott closes the distance and clinches.
Elliott looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Khan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Khan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Elliott's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Elliott looking to hit a scissor sweep but Khan is one step ahead there.
Khan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sammie Elliott.
Well Elliott has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
