PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Irwin Ortiz (ranked 24511 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aron Kim (ranked 6003 p4p, 553 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kim looking to score a takedown here. Ortiz is defending well but Kim drives through and ends up in Ortiz's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kim trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ortiz can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kim controls the pace.

Kim drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kim jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ortiz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kim has managed to get both his arms back between Ortiz's legs - danger averted.
Ortiz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kim on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kim is stalling in the full guard.
Let's hope that Kim has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Ortiz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kim passes into half guard.
Ortiz wants to control but Kim is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ortiz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Ortiz is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kim scores with a couple of nice shots.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kim moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Ortiz has worked his arm free - good work by Ortiz!

Kim tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kim remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Ortiz is looking to reverse the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kim decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ortiz to his feet.

Kim fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ortiz sprawls well initially but Kim persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Ortiz manages to escape and get back to his feet!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kim tries a head kick but it misses.
Ortiz is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Ortiz tries to move into range but Kim moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It looks like Irwin Ortiz has been cut.
Kim has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kim has Ortiz pressed against the cage, preventing Ortiz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Kim wants to stand but Ortiz is controlling the position.
Kim looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kim can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ortiz's guard.

Kim scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Kim wants to work for an arm triangle but Ortiz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kim frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Ortiz is desperately trying to improve his position but Kim has a good base and remains in mount.

BOOM! Kim connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Kim postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ortiz looks a forlorn figure.
Ortiz is looking to improve his position but Kim isn't that keen on the idea.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
