PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Potter (ranked 1007 p4p, 134 weight class) and Vadim Nazarov (ranked 1809 p4p, 234 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vadim Nazarov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 19 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vadim Nazarov!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Joseph Jones and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Potter has Nazarov pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Potter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nazarov tumbling to the mat - Potter dives into Nazarov's guard.
Potter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Potter stands up over Nazarov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

We've been hearing that Potter has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Nazarov wants to sweep here but Potter controlling him for the moment.
Nazarov is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Potter tries to free his leg and advance position but Nazarov is retaining full guard.

Potter working over Nazarov with some ground and pound. Nazarov looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Potter is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Nazarov wants to control but Potter is keeping busy.

Potter is working for a submission of some sort.

Nazarov tries to roll over but Potter keeps him under control.
Potter trying to control the action but Nazarov is working from the bottom.
Potter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Potter seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Nazarov has recovered full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nazarov wants to improve his position but Potter is controlling well.

Potter stalling away here and it's allowed Nazarov to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Potter is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Nazarov looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.

Nazarov looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Potter lands a nice forearm strike.

Potter swings around for an armbar but Nazarov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Potter's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nazarov wants to control from the top but Potter keeps moving.
Potter is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nazarov can do to turn this around?
Potter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Potter can't control as he wanted to and Nazarov manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Nazarov tries to get to full guard but Potter has control of the leg.
Nazarov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nazarov.
Nazarov keeping moving, preventing Potter from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nazarov is pulling down on Potter's head. It's preventing any offense from Potter, at least for the moment.
Nazarov is trying to control the position but Potter postures up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Potter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Potter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nazarov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Potter seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Potter throws a nice outside leg kick.
Potter just misses with a punch to the body.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Potter throws a half hearted mid kick.
Potter tries to land a body kick
and Nazarov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Potter misses the jab.
Nice shot lands for Nazarov.
Potter does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Nazarov lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Potter at a distance.
Potter connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Potter swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Potter needs to keep his hands up - Nazarov had a free shot at his head there.
Potter fails with a takedown attempt.
Nazarov looks to land a right hand but Potter moved out of range.
Nazarov takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Potter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nazarov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Potter somewhat.
A countering left hand to the body from Nazarov misses.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Potter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nazarov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Potter somewhat.
Potter misses with a few strikes there.
Nazarov works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Nazarov takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Alexander Potter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No joy there for Potter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Potter throws a nice outside leg kick.
Potter misses with a looping right.
Nazarov bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloppy strikes from Potter. Those never looked like landing.

Potter doesn't manage to clinch there - Nazarov circles away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Potter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nazarov scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Potter shoots for a takedown but Nazarov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nazarov connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Potter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vadim Nazarov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Nazarov wants to control but Potter is having none of it.

Alexander Potter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Potter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
