PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudi Dassler (ranked 1777 p4p, 246 weight class) and Dennis Nilsen (ranked 2158 p4p, 288 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Rudi Dassler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dennis Nilsen!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nilsen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Nilsen shoots in and gets a takedown into Dassler's guard.
Nilsen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dassler throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Nilsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dassler has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nilsen has managed to get both his arms back between Dassler's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nilsen controlling from the top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nilsen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dassler with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Nilsen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Nilsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dassler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dassler escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nilsen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dassler wants to sweep but no luck.
Nilsen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Dassler had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nilsen defends it easily.

Dassler looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Nilsen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Dassler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nilsen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Nilsen wants to control but Dassler is keeping him busy.

Dassler tries to buck Nilsen off but Nilsen is having none of it.
Nilsen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dassler keeps working.

Nilsen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dassler manages to avoid it.
Dassler tries for a takedown but Nilsen sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nilsen wants to counter with a clinch but Dassler pushes him away.
Nilsen swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nilsen takes a swing at Dassler's ribcage but misses.

Nilsen works his way into side control.
Dassler tries to buck Nilsen off but Nilsen is having none of it.
