PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daren Wooten (ranked 25521 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elliot McQuiston (ranked 5190 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Daren Wooten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Elliot McQuiston!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McQuiston moves into range and clinches up with Wooten.

McQuiston's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McQuiston walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Wooten checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Left hook, right uppercut from Wooten.

Wooten shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Wooten was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Wooten looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Wooten is trying to ground and pound but McQuiston uses the momentary lack of control by Wooten to regain half guard.
Wooten is thwarting McQuiston's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooten not landing any meaningful shots this time.

McQuiston is pressing down on Wooten's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Wooten is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
McQuiston tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Wooten would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

McQuiston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wooten's guard.

Wooten is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McQuiston wants to improve his position but Wooten is controlling well.

McQuiston is controlling Wooten's trapped leg to prevent Wooten from advancing to side control.

Wooten is working for a kimura but McQuiston is defending it quite comfortably.

Wooten is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McQuiston defends it well.

Wooten is keen to just control but McQuiston is a slippery customer.
McQuiston regains full guard. Nicely done.
Wooten wants to control from the top but McQuiston keeps moving.
McQuiston is pulling down on Wooten's head. It's preventing any offense from Wooten, at least for the moment.

McQuiston is looking to stand up but Wooten isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McQuiston's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on McQuiston's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wooten manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McQuiston on his heels. He'll look to pass McQuiston's guard now, I'm sure.
McQuiston wants to get back to his feet but Wooten is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wooten slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Wooten wanted to stand there but McQuiston had control of the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McQuiston is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

McQuiston jumps guard but Wooten turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

McQuiston gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McQuiston tries to free his leg and advance position but Wooten is retaining full guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

McQuiston stands up over Wooten, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McQuiston wants to control from the top but Wooten keeps moving.
McQuiston is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Wooten pulls McQuiston in close to his closed guard and prevents McQuiston from doing any damage or advancing position.
McQuiston forces his way into half guard.
McQuiston wants to control but Wooten is keeping him busy.
Wooten tries to roll over but McQuiston keeps him under control.
McQuiston working over Wooten with some ground and pound. Wooten looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Wooten is trying to get back to full guard.
McQuiston content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
McQuiston looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wooten with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
McQuiston is taking a breather. Wooten says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

McQuiston lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McQuiston in particular looking to stall.
McQuiston is nestled in close to Wooten, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
McQuiston content to control rather than advance.
Wooten is looking for a sweep. McQuiston is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Elliot McQuiston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Wooten slaps away a takedown attempt from McQuiston, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A counter left hand to the body from Wooten misses its target.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
McQuiston tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wooten smiles and moves away.
McQuiston goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
McQuiston moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Wooten closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wooten lands in his opponent's guard.

McQuiston has control of Wooten's left arm, preventing Wooten from doing any damage.
Wooten is looking to stand up but McQuiston won't let him.

McQuiston stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wooten swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McQuiston seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wooten is trying to get back to full guard.
Wooten is staying active underneath McQuiston, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

McQuiston has Wooten up against the cage in a clinch.
McQuiston misses with a hook from the clinch.
McQuiston lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McQuiston is looking for a takedown.
Daren Wooten has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elliot McQuiston.
McQuiston works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
