Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Salek (ranked 25786 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob De Guzman (ranked 5558 p4p, 0 weight class). Rob Salek looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rob Salek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jacob De Guzman!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salek misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Salek looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

De Guzman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Salek sprawls well initially but De Guzman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
De Guzman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Salek with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Guzman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
De Guzman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Salek seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Salek gets caught flat footed, as De Guzman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

De Guzman distracts Salek with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Salek is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at ELITE Island Gym - 19 Elite Coaches - $325/Week that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
De Guzman stays in close to Salek's body and controls the position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Salek is trying to control De Guzman's posture but De Guzman avoids it.
Salek might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
De Guzman advances to full mount.

De Guzman has control of Salek's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Salek regains control of the situation pretty easily.
De Guzman is trying to take his opponent's back.

De Guzman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
It looked like Salek was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
De Guzman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Salek could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
De Guzman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

De Guzman closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Salek quickly recovers to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

De Guzman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Salek!

De Guzman is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Salek is surviving well by controlling De Guzman's body position as best he can.

De Guzman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

De Guzman lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
De Guzman darts in looking for a takedown but Salek gets double underhooks and turns De Guzman into the cage.
As De Guzman looks to move away, Salek throws a big counter combo but De Guzman just gets out of the way.
Rob Salek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacob De Guzman.

De Guzman shoots in for a double leg but Salek sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

De Guzman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Salek tries to avoid it but De Guzman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Salek to the ground. Salek escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Salek throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around De Guzman's waist but De Guzman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salek off to one side.

De Guzman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - De Guzman lands in his opponent's guard.

Salek is working an open guard so De Guzman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Salek tries to score a power double leg takedown but De Guzman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Salek somewhat.

De Guzman is standing up over Salek. Salek looks to escape but De Guzman dives into side control.

Jacob De Guzman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

De Guzman decides to stand up, so the ref orders Salek to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well De Guzman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
