PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yamato Take (ranked 218 p4p, 36 weight class) and Anakoni Kai (ranked 851 p4p, 119 weight class). Kai has chosen Firestarter as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Anakoni Kai will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yamato Take!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anakoni Kai!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kai throws a poor cross that misses
and Kai takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kai jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Take throwing a counter right hand but Kai manages to avoid it.
Take checks a low kick from Kai.
Kai takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Kai scores with a jab.
Kai rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Take counters with a stiff right hand.
Take digs a good body shot into Kai's ribs.
Take tries to work over Kai's front leg with a kick but Kai checks it.
Kai throws a chopping leg kick but Take manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Kai connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Kai works over Take's head and body with a nice combination.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kai misses with a jab, cross combination.
It looked like Take was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Kai.
Take thumps Kai with a low kick.
Kai takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kai lands a leg kick that knocks Take off balance momentarily.
The fighters circling - Take throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Take lands a nice shot that snaps Kai's head back.
Kai misses with a left hand
and Take cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kai swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Take counters with an outside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Take steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kai.
Kai is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Take.
Kai slips a straight right by Take.

Take closes the distance and clinches.
Take tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Kai.
Take working aggressively here.
Take tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kai's elbow.
Take misses with the head strike.
Kai swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Take fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
A short right from Take.
Kai tries to break free but Take pushes him back against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Kai's face as he tries to break the clinch.
I was talking to Take's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Kai takes a shot to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Take fails to land.
Kai misses with a short punch on the inside.
Take misses with a short punch on the inside.
Take misses with a punch to the body.
Kai lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Kai takes an elbow to the forehead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kai wants to break the clinch but can't.
Kai blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Kai escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kai scores with a jab. Take acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kai throws a leg kick
and Take counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Kai blocks the body kick.
Kai with a nice cross.
Kai throws a jab when Take was well out of range.
Take is looking to counter punch.
Kai connects with a looping right hand.
Kai uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Take.
Kai looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Kai lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kai pivots, looking for a leg kick but Take is out of range and Kai settles back down.
Take takes a kick to the side of the head.
Take scores with a hook to the body. Kai takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Kai scores with a nice right hand.
Kai misses with a body shot.
Anakoni Kai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kai scores with a decent looking hook.
Kai fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Take manages to avoid it.
Take tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kai listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Kai gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Take throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kai takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A slapping leg kick lands for Take.
Kai chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kai looks to land a right hand but Take moved out of range.
Take connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Kai lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Take slips under a jab.
Take moves out of range of the body kick.
Kai throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Take on the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kai looks to throw the jab but Take is out of range.
Kai throws a leg kick but Take moved away.
Take quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Kai takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Kai moves out of range as Take throws a body kick.
Kai keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A solid body kick from Take.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A solid leg kick lands there for Take.
Kai jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Some bone on bone action there as Kai checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Take takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Take swings for the body but Kai moves out of range.
Kai is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Kai takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Kai ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Kai blocks the body kick.
Kai buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Take blocks a leg kick.
Kai tries to bum rush Take with a series of wild strikes but Take uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Take swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Kai has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Kai lands a body shot.
Good exchange - Kai coming out on top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Take keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Kai's corner calls for a 1-2. Kai obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Kai on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kai throws a hook but Take blocks it.
Take fires out a quick counter leg kick but Kai just manages to avoid it.
Good exchange - Take coming out on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Anakoni Kai will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kai throws a body shot but no joy.
Kai throws the left hand but Take avoids the punch easily.
Take was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kai crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Take - the referee stops the clock and Kai gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Take. Kai manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Take lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Kai misses with the body kick
and Take connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


Kai is rocked!
Take blocks a low kick nicely.
Kai is still on wobbly legs! Can Take finish him?
Take circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Kai to the canvas! Kai doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Take keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Yamato Take!
Yamato Take retains his welterweight title!
