Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DJ Boom (ranked 1231 p4p, 129 weight class) and Bronson Hughes (ranked 1275 p4p, 132 weight class). Hughes has chosen Slam - By: Onyx as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, DJ Boom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bronson Hughes!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boom scores with a kick to the midsection.
Nice takedown defense from Boom. No joy for Hughes on that attempt.
Boom lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hughes circles away quickly and effectively.
Hughes fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Boom.
Hughes is looking to score with low kicks.
Crunch! Boom slams his shin into Hughes's torso.

Hughes looks to throw the jab but Boom is out of range.
Hughes throws a poor cross that misses
and Boom makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Boom punishes Hughes's body with a nice straight punch.
Hughes paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Boom throws the kick towards the body but Hughes avoids it.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Boom throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hughes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boom.
Boom throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hughes misses with a hook. Boom ducked under it nicely.
Hughes throws a sloppy head kick
and Boom counters with a nice uppercut.
Hughes throws a good cross that connects.

Boom rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hughes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Boom not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Hughes throws an elbow that misses. Boom uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Boom!

Boom seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We've been hearing good reports from Boom's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hughes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Boom momentarily.
Boom misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hughes.
Boom is looking to wear down Hughes with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes throws a lazy right hand but Boom sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hughes keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Boom as he avoids it easily.
Boom throws a push kick but Hughes slaps the foot to one side.
Boom looks to land a left hand but Hughes moved out of range nicely.

and Boom counters with a lovely straight right hand!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Hughes closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boom to the mat! Boom manages to get full guard.
Boom wants to sweep but no luck.
Hughes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Boom's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Boom is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boom has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hughes.

Hughes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boom's head.
Boom is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Hughes misses with a head shot. Boom uses the momentum to regain guard.
Hughes postures up and lands a big shot to Boom's brow.
Boom has Hughes pulled in close to control his posture.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Boom is on top in guard.

Our spies down at at LOD: Scrap Squad inform us that Hughes has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boom looking to sit in guard and control but Hughes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Bronson Hughes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Boom uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hughes.

Bronson Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom throws an overhand right that lands on Hughes's shoulder, as Hughes tries to avoid the shot.

Well,Boom is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?

Bronson Hughes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hughes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
