TGC 52: Reaper vs Mikhasevich PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikos Giannopoulos (ranked 2062 p4p, 285 weight class) and Jean-Claude Marceau (ranked 3512 p4p, 455 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 wins, 1 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of New York, Jean-Claude Marceau!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giannopoulos scores with a nice right hand.
Marceau throws a big shot that misses.
Giannopoulos appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Giannopoulos ducks under a wild hook from Marceau.
A little feinted left hand from Giannopoulos on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Giannopoulos tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Marceau is able to avoid easily.
A nice side step and Marceau releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Marceau steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Giannopoulos.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Marceau! But no joy.
Giannopoulos throws a head kick but Marceau moves out of range.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Giannopoulos is looking to pass Marceau's guard but actually Marceau recovers to full guard.
Marceau can't keep his opponent in guard - Giannopoulos advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Giannopoulos is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Marceau sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Giannopoulos is trying to control. Marceau wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Marceau is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Giannopoulos's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Giannopoulos's back!

Marceau lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Giannopoulos.
Marceau is not going to allow Giannopoulos to sit and survive in this position.
Giannopoulos is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Marceau.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Giannopoulos is keeping busy.
Marceau is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Giannopoulos looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Giannopoulos tries to escape but Marceau has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Marceau just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

That was a close round but I would say that Nikos Giannopoulos will probably get the nod.

Marceau is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Giannopoulos with a body shot.

Marceau throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Marceau cracks Giannopoulos with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Marceau throws out a counter right but Giannopoulos avoids it with no problem.

Nikos Giannopoulos showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Giannopoulos has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Nikos Giannopoulos rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
