Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Walton Gray (ranked 6070 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 7048 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by You Suck. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Walton Gray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gray scores with a takedown into Smith's guard.

Smith is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Gray presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Gray on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Smith gets underhooks to prevent Gray's takedown attempt.
Gray is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Gray drops down looking for an ankle pick but Smith pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walton Gray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Smith takes the fight into the clinch.
Smith can't find room to land a body shot as Gray controls the action.
Gray is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Smith is defending well.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Smith throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Smith moves into range and clinches up with Gray.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Smith escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

It looks like Walton Gray has been cut.
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gray's head backwards.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gray as he jumps to the side.
As Smith looks to move away, Gray throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gray lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Smith has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Smith and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith misses with a double jab
and Gray counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith goes for a double leg but Gray avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gray continues to drive forward.

and Gray counters with a stiff right hand.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Gray steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Smith fails to land the takedown.

That's time! Gray's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Smith forces Gray back against the cage and clinches.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith shoots in but Gray avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gray is looking to clinch but Smith is avoiding it.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gray sprawls well. Gray wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
As Smith backs away, Gray returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gray defends well and Smith ends up having to push Gray into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gray has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Gray's legs - danger averted.

Gray had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Smith stands up from Gray's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Gray in a clinch.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gray as he jumps to the side.
Gray leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gray wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side
and Smith counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Gray blocks the body kick.
Gray appears to be looking for a big counter.
Gray misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gray defends it nicely.
Smith shoots for a takedown but Gray saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gray throws a quick counter kick to the body but Smith avoids it.
Gray tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.

Gray rushes Smith and presses him up against the cage.

Gray pulls guard successfully.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Gray escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Smith stands and steps away. Gray gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Smith fails with the takedown.
Gray shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but Gray keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but John Smith will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Smith moves into the clinch.
Gray jumps guard but Smith stands there with Gray around his waist. Gray gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Smith wants to take the fight to the mat but Gray manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Walton Gray has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
John Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gray is one step ahead there.

John Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
