PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paddy Bateman (ranked 1139 p4p, 153 weight class) and Olaf Frost (ranked 1526 p4p, 195 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paddy Bateman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Olaf Frost!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Bateman catches Frost right on the button with a cross.

Frost moves into the clinch.
Bateman swings wildly with an uppercut but Frost uses good head movement to avoid it.
Frost misses with the head strike.

Bateman wants the takedown. Frost is fighting it off but Bateman persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Frost's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frost looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Frost wants to get back to his feet but Bateman is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Frost keeping full guard, as Bateman tries to pass.
Bateman stops Frost from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bateman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Frost is keeping the position for now.

Frost looking for a guillotine here but Bateman defends easily.

Frost can't keep his opponent in guard - Bateman advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bateman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Frost does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Still in half guard, Bateman seems content to control.

Frost is looking to control Bateman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Frost avoid being mounted?

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bateman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Frost tries to close the distance and clinch but Bateman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bateman half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Bateman showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Frost.
Bateman feinted with a counter takedown.

Frost fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bateman, pushing him back against the cage.
Frost misses with a hook from the clinch.
Nice body punch from Frost - that landed with a thud.
Bateman can't find room to land a body shot as Frost controls the action.
Frost lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Bateman backwards.

Frost prevents a body shot from Bateman.
Frost tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Frost tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Frost misses with the head strike.

Bateman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bateman doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Frost counters with a nice uppercut.

and Frost holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Frost misses with a punch to the body.
Bateman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Frost throws a head punch that misses.
Frost avoiding damage.
Bateman is working for takedown but Frost is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paddy Bateman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bateman drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Frost can't find room to land a body shot as Bateman controls the action.
Frost misses with the head strike.

Bateman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bateman loads up on a big right hand but Frost slips the punch.
Bateman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Frost.
Bateman ducks right into an uppercut from Frost.
Frost throws a right and a left that Bateman avoids nicely.
Bateman appears to be looking for a big counter.
Bateman misses with a double jab
and Frost counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bateman closes this distance looking for a takedown but Frost circles away.
Frost tries to counter with a clinch but Bateman shakes him off and moves away.
Bateman stuffs the takedown attempt from Frost. Frost gets slowly back to his feet.
Bateman shoots in but Frost avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bateman misses with an uppercut. Frost saw that one coming.
Frost uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bateman.
Bateman misses with a lunging right hand
and Frost counters with a three punch combo that has Bateman backing up. Bateman nods at Frost to acknowledge the strikes.
Frost tries for a takedown but Bateman circles away easily
and Bateman counters with a lovely shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Olaf Frost dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Frost throws a one two combo.
Frost lands a jab to the nose.
Nice uppercut there from Frost.
Bateman misses with a body shot.
Bateman throws a shot from downtown. Frost moves away and avoids it.
Frost slips a jab and a cross from Bateman.
Frost fails in his attempt to clinch.
Good leg kick by Frost there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Bateman throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Frost sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Frost throws a sloppy head kick and Bateman moves out of range easily.
Bateman connects with a nice looking jab.
A combination from Frost does no damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Frost is looking to score with low kicks.
Frost swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Bateman counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Frost!
Frost wants to get back to his feet but Bateman is dominant here and he's now got Frost's back!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Bateman is persistently looking for the submission but Frost is defending it well.
Bateman controlling the position well here. Frost rolled but Bateman kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Bateman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bateman trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Frost is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Bateman definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Bateman has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Frost's body.
Frost is trying to get back to his feet but Bateman has full control of the position and if anything, Frost has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Bateman is looking for the choke from the back position but Frost is controlling his hands well.
Bateman slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Bateman trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Bateman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Frost is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Bateman is really struggling to control Frost but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Frost trying to control the hands but Bateman won't let him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bateman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Frost wants to get back to his feet.

Frost looking very determined here, making life difficult for Bateman.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Frost avoids the body shot from Bateman.
Frost tried to score with a low kick but Bateman checks it.
Bateman has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Bateman dives in for a single leg takedown but Frost sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Bateman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bateman takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Frost takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Frost lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Frost gets caught napping as Bateman dives in and scores a takedown. Frost manages to retain guard.
Bateman wants to control from the top but Frost keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Frost working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bateman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bateman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Frost wants to stand and escape but Bateman is having none of it.

Frost lands a head kick. Bateman smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Bateman throws a jab when Frost was well out of range.
Bateman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Frost misses with a two punch combination.
Bateman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bateman moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromFrost.
Frost tries to clinch but Bateman moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paddy Bateman.
I think Bateman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Paddy Bateman decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
